One of the primary lessons my father taught me, growing up (the next is sexist, sorry) is that, "A man NEVER lies, and a man ALWAYS accepts responsibility for his actions.
I grew up believing that, to be a man, you couldn’t lie and you always owned up to anything you did, and if you DIDN’T- then no matter how old you were, you were not a man but a child, masquerading as a man.
I’ve always wondered how things would have been if my father had raised Donnie John instead of Fred.
