Fancy Shmancy! But not dignified enough for Elvis.

I do hope this is actually intended to be a litter box, and isn’t some new artifact that the boys have mistaken for one.

As a general rule, “cats” and “new” do not mix well. Not in the short term.

When we remodeled we created two new litter boxes that were hidden and had vent fans to the outside. The cats only use the one on the third floor, no matter where they are coming from. Can’t figure out what’s wrong with the other one.

Quite right, Elvis. Certain doom awaits anyone who tries to use that litter box.

Wait until the people bring home one of those electric litter boxes that scoop and clean themselves. Someone will want to do an exorcism!

We had two litter box cabinets like those a while back. They had a sliding tray to pull the box out so you could scoop it. My Nobel Willie (RIP) tended to aim high over the low litter boxes that came with it. After numerous modifications like painting the interior with exterior paint and cutting tall litter boxes down so they fit the cavity, I eventually had to dispose of them because of urine saturation in the interior that could no longer be cleaned out.

I hate to quibble (that’s not actually true; I love a good quibble), but shouldn’t the litter box be behind the little closed door? If it sits where it’s shown, it doesn’t prevent litter from being kicked out the open doorway and onto the floor. (P.S. to Ms. Dunn: I love that the digital colour backgrounds like in panel 2 are still happening, and I hope that work is not causing you pain. Those soft aquas and purples and yellows and other colours you choose are simply gorgeous. )♥

Loaner Cat would take one look at that and find somewhere else in the house. She hates change and doesn’t do well at all with enclosed spaces. :(

That door is an exit, I guess?

Mine didn’t like the fully enclosed litter box. I thought it would give them privacy and prevent litter scattering. Turned out they probably felt trapped.

I recently bought one of those self-cleaning boxes for the girls. Smudge is young enough to adapt (and has); Yum Yum is very wary of it, but uses it.

    It had to be you

For number one & number two

I wandered around, and I finally found

    A litterbox who

    Is the perfect loo

And could make me not blue

    And even be glad

The joy to be had – going in you

Sorry for the double post, I posted it in the wrong place: We bought an upholstered one that doubles as a pleather ottoman for our office cats and put it in front of the window so they can use it as a perch.

But instead of a litter box, we put in a perfect fitting fluffy crate bed to make it a hideaway. They take turns using it for quiet naps when cat and human business gets too hectic.

The only drawback is the interior is black, the bed is black, and two of the boys are black or mostly black. So when doing roll call it’s easy to miss someone in there by just peeking in the opening. The easiest thing to do is lift lid up to check.

Of course, a sleeping cat isn’t expecting the sky to suddenly open and the indignant faces we get looking back up at us is much the same as it’s intended use: “What?! Get outta here!! It’s occupied!!”

There better be a ventilator fan in there. I once did catsitting at the house of an architect. He had designed a “litter room” into one wall, with cat and maid access panels, which was ventilated all the way through the roof. Beautiful, functional design.

Also, my white one has access for the kitties on the end so it’s not facing the living room.

We have ours in the garage, with 2 pet doors leading to them (2). It works great and keeps smell and litter [mostly] out of the house.

I have 5 sterlite® boxes for the gang. The lids are used as trays for their food bowls. I can keep litter 6 inches deep in the approximately 24″ × 14″ × 12″ deep boxes. If they get too stinky, I toss them and buy a new box for $5.99. Such a bargain.

Our son in law built us one like that when he got his table saw. Entry on the side, access door on the front, pan on a slide out shelf.

Looking at the litter box, it looks to have an enormous amount of litter, even more than the suggested amount of three inches. It’s piled so high a cat could get lost in it.
