Democrats proposed a BIPARTISAN, INDEPENDENT COMMISSION, with an equal number of OUTSIDE, PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATORS chosen by each party, to investigate and report on what happened on and before January 6, in the same manner as the bipartisan, independent commission that investigated 9/11.
Kevin McCarthy in the House and Mitch McMoscow in the Senate killed that plan.
TrumpubliQans claim that it was ANTIFA (ANTIFAscits), Democrats, Black Lives Matter or goddess knows who else, but the REJECTED an OUTSIDE, PROFESSIONAL COMMISSION chosen on a truly bipartisan basis that would prove their accusations.
So if the TrumpubliQans refuse to cooperate in a truly bipartisan, objective investigation, they have a lot of nerve to whine and cry and throw their little tantrums when the Democrats go it alone.
Did I say go it alone? Nancy Pelosi gave minority leader McCarthy the option to select FIVE Republicans to participate, with only the limitation they had to be serious nominations. She even clarified that having voted against certifying the election results would not be disqualifying, a point I respectfully disagree with.

Democrats tried to create a bipartisan committee through official congressional legislation, but Republicans stopped them. Democrats then went at it by themselves, creating a select committee with the House leadership powers, yet still decided to invite Republicans onto the commission as an act of good faith. All Republicans needed to do was act like adults who believe fascist coups are bad business, instead of a bunch of clowns whose only goal is to disrupt the proceedings. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, however, could not pass this basic “adults or clowns?” test. He picked clowns, including Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, who has a pair of the biggest shoes and some of the thickest greasepaint in the highly competitive field of authoritarian buffoons of the GOP. Picking the QAnon shaman would have been a more subtle effort at sabotage, but “subtle” isn’t exactly a popular aesthetic in Republican circles today. And so Pelosi did what any sensible person who wants a real investigation instead of a conspiracy theory circus would have done: She said no thank you to Jordan and Jim Banks, R-Ind., who honks his nose less loudly than Jordan but is no less a far-right saboteur.
In turn, McCarthy, proving once more he is not adult enough to handle the responsibilities Pelosi entrusted to him, threw a tantrum and declared that he and the Republicans are going to have their own investigation, where they can unpack the clown car full of all the “antifa did it!” and “beating cops is peaceful protest” lies that they want.
“There are people who want to derail and thwart an investigation and there are people who want to conduct an investigation,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., made clear to the New York Times. “That’s the fault line here.”
Rejecting picks that were complicate and perhaps part of the planning of the coup makes a lot of sense. Certainly, rejecting anyone who voted against certifying the most secure election the USA has had in a long time (leaving out the discrepancies in places like Kentucky which benefited Republicans, Moscow Mitch especially, go figure) also makes sense. They have already proven they can’t make informed and fair decisions. As for some of the others, you don’t put a bank robber in charge of their own investigation. You certainly wouldn’t put a terrorist traitor in charge of an investigation that will likely find their guilt in the January 6th attack on the Capital and Democracy.

Unfazed by Republican threats of a boycott, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared Thursday that a congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection will take on its “deadly serious” work whether Republicans participate or not.
The legislation that CREATED the committee CLEARLY gave Nancy Pelosi the right to challenge any of the Qpublicans nominated, but McCarthy is whining that her refusing the rabid whackos that he picked was “An Egregious Abuse of Power”.
What’re they whining about? The select committee is bipartisan. Pelosi removed 2 Republicans from the list, and McCarthy removed 3. Sounds bipartisan to me. :)
Abuse of power Mr. Anderson? Why don’t we discuss Donald John Trump then, including his inviting a foreign power to actively commit espionage in the United States.
The GOP already rejected a bipartisan plan. Now they’re complaining it isn’t bipartisan. This is their own doing, but I don’t think they’re surprised. Au contraire, it’s all part of the plan. By forcing the Democrats to either abandon an investigation or have a partisan investigation, they have given themselves the ability to discredit any investigation by saying they weren’t involved. This is icing on the cake — since Pelosi invited them to nominate some of their number, it gets even better: if she approves them, they can sabotage the investigation, and if she rejects them, they can cry partisan bias. Truth, of course, is not important.
Sadly, this was totally predictable. After the Rs blocked a Congressional inquiry (via the Senate), it was no surprise that the House Democrats would form their own committee… and no surprise that House Republicans would try to sabotage it, and that Pelosi would sidestep the Rs efforts, and that the Rs would become incensed…
Meanwhile, the public watched what happened at the Capitol live on TV – and saw the participants’ boasting about what they did – and notice that now deniers are trying to sweep it all under the rug… only the really hardcore aren’t embarrassed by their lies, and they are a shrinking minority. The Rs are digging themselves deeper and deeper holes. If they weren’t so adamant about covering it up, and instead made some reasonable effort to help analyze why it happened and what could have been done better to avoid risking Congressional lives in the future, they might save some face… but in the double-down world of Trumpism they believe it should be all or nothing… they’re on the path to nothing.
Everyone with a TV saw an unedited version of what happened on January 6. It was live. And yet some (Republicans) still try to deny the truth. Listening to the officers who testified yesterday was a continuation of that undeniable detailed truth.
