The privatization of space travel is a very bad idea for humanity and the rest of the planet.

True, but soon demand will lead to more of these flights, and the price will start to come down. Then they’ll start staying up a little longer. Then they will land somewhere other than where they took off, and that might even be the first civilian-built space hotel. This is how it starts. So, sure, ego trips for these ultra-rich guys but space tourism and travel are just around the corner.

No, no, no. Richard Branson said he’s doing this to make people appreciate space more.

This is as silly as it gets.

And yet the end result may be that space flight becomes cheaper and more common.

I will bet all the aerospace folks who have a job thanks to this are not really into the ego trip concept. This is a start and doesn’t take government money. And the nice thing with private enterprise you are flexible and don’t have to go to Congress for funding.

If he spent the money and the time to build it, he’s entitled to play with it.

I love it that his ship looks like a huge phallus. That had to be intentional.
