I think that humanity NEEDS to make it fully into space, and SOON: Gaia is gonna kick us out anyway, so it would be better if we had a toehold out there. Imagine for a moment what it would be like if mining on or near the surface of the Earth were moved into the asteroid belt. Imagine for a moment that dirty industrial processes were happening in zero G and well away from our ecosphere. Imagine that, because there are a lot of people living out there, we can afford to put energy collection tech into high orbit, even though it needs maintenance.
And for the doomsday folk: Imagine that the next “dinosaur killer” rock can be detected and diverted in time to save the planet. Not that we have a very good track record at planning ahead and avoiding catastrophe… but maybe the NEXT time.

I think billionaires who launch themselves into space to improve their space tourism ROI have truly earned the title “asstronauts.”

Montana Bull: Bezos didn’t “make the money”. He took it from the underpaid workers he exploited to sell a bunch of Chinese-made junk.

If they find a giant asteroid of gold wouldn’t that make gold basically worthless?
