Sweet revenge though. I don’t know how long that little kid had to wait to become king, but you can sure bet that those volleyball players were the very first that went to the gallows.

Looks like fun unless you’re hit the wrong way out of bounds.

IS this the origin of the spook?

I’d go looking for starfish, or clams, mussels or something. Agates can be found on some beachs.

They can’t do that anymore, king – at least not without consequences – you are the king).

I understand the trauma from the memories. Maybe you should ban volleyball (at least from the beach while you’re at the beach)

We all have youthful trauma. People handle it differently. Give the king a book.

Guessing he wasn’t born to the royal family, otherwise he would have had guards to protect him on his outing to the beach. But the trauma of this experience might have driven his thirst for power; once he became king, no one could ever pick on him again. So maybe he owes a debt of gratitude to all those guys who used him as their volleyball that day.

Then again, once he became king, maybe he had all of them beheaded.

I left this comic this morning totally not understanding it, and then later as I was reading the Sunday paper, I came across it and it made sense to me – as a flashback. I didn’t see the kid as the king.

Then there was the time they tricked him into being a “spotter” for the team archery contest…

    “HEY, KID! HIT IT!”

(wishes this cartoon had details indicating whether parts of it (or panels) like the one involving this dialogue was among the “BAD MEMORIES” mentioned in a certain part (or part) separate from them)
