    I got a complaint about the weeds in my yard. I pointed out that the ‘weeds’ were the California State Flower. Yes, I was in California back then.

    It took decades of not having to do the mowing myself before I got even a flicker of enjoyment from that onerous smell.

    Back in 1965 I bought a Scotts Silent reel mower. You could almost hear the grass being cut.It was so easy to push, & my young sons loved to mow the lawn with it. My older son still has it. In 1950 I used to mow neighbor’s lawns to ear some $. Back in the late 40s, early 50s push mowers were a bear to move since handle was at a high angle for a not very tall youngster.
