Never owned an umbrella. ?Tried using one a couple times that people lent me, but I saw little point to carrying something over my head that caused my shoes to fill with water at every step. Unless i get caught in a severe downpour I feel drier at my destination with a little rain on me than I felt using an umbrella

One way to make it rain is to leave your umbrella in the car when you’re shopping!!!

Hard to believe, but some people do need remedial umbrella use lessons.

I almost always wear something with a hood or carry a lightweight hoodie. Much easier to carry than an umbrella and I can get inside a car without having to close it and get wet first. Ditto on getting out. I walk outside a lot and just got used to being prepared.

The canyons of lower and midtown Manhattan form wind tunnels that are death to umbrellas. In a rainstorm you’ll see people shifting their umbrellas left, right, up, down, trying to tack into the wind so the umbrellas don’t blow inside out. You’ll also see the litter baskets and the sidewalks surrounding them piled with the umbrellas that didn’t survive the ordeal.
