Blame National Geographic. My four-year-old got a National Geographic learn-to-read book about spiders as a gift. I went from largely unconcerned to “omg there’s a spider, run for your life” after looking at those pictures. New house rule is that if you want to read the spider book, Daddy has to help you, cause Mama ain’t doing it =D

My big husky Marine vet nephew is terrified of spiders. I don’t know what he thinks of Spider-Man – maybe I’ll ask him when I see him next week.
