This is Bill’s daughter again. Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind comments about my daddy. While I have bawled my eyes out reading them, it does my heart good to know how very cared about he was by so many.
For anyone who would like to see it, his obituary is here. It only paints a small picture of the amazing man he was.
Hey, everyone, just need a little reassurance I’ve done the right thing. There’s been a little grey tabby cat hanging around my apartment for a while now, who I’ve been feeding. Recently I noticed that she was pregnant. She wasn’t friendly enough to touch, so I resorted to a live trap. She’s shut in my bathroom now (cage is open, she has food and water, a litter box and soft places to lie on) and now I’m having spasms of guilt over scaring her (and taking her away from her orange friend she was hanging out with tonight, I can’t explain to him where his girlfriend has gone). Our shelter is no-kill, and her kittens don’t need to be born on the street. But ye gods, I feel bad about it.
I am filled with joy at this uplifting strip today. Sophie’s beautiful hat! Tommy’s tiny umbrella over his microphone! The creative awesomeness of the sea stretching across the strip’s panels!! But most of all, Sophie’s positive message, which ought to be embroidered on a pillow to remind us all.
Long after Georgia ends this cartoon, collections of her kitty tales will be reprinted for new generations of fans. Not all masterpieces are ephemeral.
‘Temporary Masterpieces’ Lovely turn of phrase for the ephemeral nature of existence…“Heaven and Earth are impartial, treating all things as straw dogs”
For some reason, this paragraph of Desiderata, a poem by Max Ehrmann came to mind regarding this comic today:
Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
Don’t know how or why this came to mind, but Desiderata has always been a guiding light to me. If you have never read it, it is here in its entirety: https://www.desiderata.com/desiderata.html
After the sorrow of learning we lost Bill Jackson last week, this lovely strip and Sophie’s attitude are so soothing, it really helps. So thank you Georgia for all you are and do.
Okay, more D&Dizing. Held off Sophie because she didn’t seem much of a participant at first but now I see her as a College of Eloquence Bard, Probably True Neutral, at least in the beginning but her interactions with the boys during Wrestlemania I think have pushed her more in a Chaotic direction, maybe even Chaotic Good.
Great Boot I’m seeing as a Battlemaster Fighter (He did defeat the possums after all) probably Lawful or Neutral Good
So very sorry for your loss. My husband/best friend just passed away. He fought cancer for almost 6 years. Now he is whole again. Bless you and your family…
Thank you for sharing this link Daughter of Bill. He was much appreciated in the BCN community and will long be missed. A life of creativity and kindness is well-lived.
It’s almost the anniversary of Bill Jackson’s passing. I came back to comment since Susanna gave the link and it has a message from Bill’s daughter, Heather as the Featured Comment.
I don’t remember if I had noted this item when this strip came out, but Tommy holding the tiny umbrella over the microphone is just precious! It’s July 17, 2022 as I write this and, in real life, Tommy passed away about a week ago. And that’s another sad bit of news. I just love Georgia and her art! Even when I’m sad, I can look at her work and find reasons to smile!
As a matter of fact, I have a folder full of Instant Laughs and most of them come from BCN!

I’m sure this comic isn’t autobiographical at all. XD All hail those who harness the might of Poseidon for ART!

What’s it all about, indeed. Dare I ask if our little water sprite is taking a dip in the toilet? To create her temporary masterpieces?

As per Yoko Ono:We’re all water from different rivers!
That’s why its so easy to meet.
We’re all water in this vast, vast ocean…
Some day we’ll evaporate together.

Singing in the Rain
I’m painting in the rain
Yes, painting in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I’m happy again
My canvass the floor
To be seen from above
I’m here with my brush
Doing just what I love
Let evaporation chase
The masterpiece from the place!
Come on, this mermaid
Has a smile on her face
My woman’s here now
With a big fluffy towel
I’m purring and painting in the rain!

Tommy came upon a child of Cat
She was splashing in her wet bowl
And he asked her, “What are you doing?”
And this she told him
Powerful changes happen, most unplanned
I’m a Mermaid of sea & sand
Try to accept what we can’t understand
And trust in magic to set souls free
“We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden"
