My favorite line in “Patton” (the movie that Varvel is referencing for you youngsters) is when the general is observing his forces defeat General Irwin Rommel’s Africa Corp and he yells out “Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I READ YOUR BOOK!”

The law is a fascinating index of social relations. Not just for lawyers, but for social scientists and historians and anyone interested in how society works. Law is not something that comes down as an unchangeable whole from god, it’s a human institution that changes over time. The law is a codification of (some of) what a society feels about the various parts of the society and how they relate to each other. Race is part of it, but also gender, the rights of children, the safety of workers, all kinds of things. As society changes, law changes, though usually it’s behind the social changes. Many of those who are opposed to Critical Race Theory don’t want to learn anything about anything, and they certainly don’t want any examination of their privileges as they are codified by the law.

So being educated and well-read makes you woke? You make my party-boy representative look like the illiterate idiot he is and I’ll call you WOKE!!!
