I was once in a restaurant where the diner ripped into the server for some totally trivial idiocy, and had her in tears. Being who I am, I told him to spend ONE day in her shoes and try to understand how she feels. I told him he was a total jackass…because his wife was too embarrassed to do it herself. He called me a bitch. I said “Little boy, I am SURE you can do better than that. Grow up.”. I gave the server a hug and told her I appreciated the good service.
Wow what a piss poor attitude. Assuming the folks aren’t being paid. So what’s with the ordering around? How about a few pleases, thank yous and generally showing gratitude. It’s time he grows up and stops running to mommy and daddy whenever he’s in a jam. I’d walk out and tell sonny boy to deal with his own business
I know from experience how a server (male or female) waiter/waitress can make good tips. If they bring children, make sure the children are happy….therefore Mom & Dad are happy. You do not have to flirt, but make that patron feel they are the welcome and your priority. Sure your going to get the bad customers, but keep that smile no matter how tired. Most servers have to share their tips, or like the Mom & Pop restaurant not making decent wages….so they work for tips.
I always treat waiters or waitresses with respect. If they do a great job, I tip big. If they don’t – I first look at why? If I see the kitchen or the manager is the problem, I still tip big.
