NO possible way! Montgomery warned America “never start a ground war in Asia”. Bush/Cheney started BOTH of them!!!! Obama is actually letting someone with some military intelligence change our pattern in both countries, to turn them back to their OWN people. We NEVER should have “occupied” or changed the governments in EITHER country, though just taking out the “camps” in Afghanistan COULD have been done, but Bush AND Cheney were too dumb to see the light, or read history by it.

At least Mr. Obama is capable of speaking in parsable sentences and can string two or more together without tripping over his tongue or losing his train of thought. W has to have been the stupidist president in living memory.

For years the anti-Iraq people said it was a mistake to go into Iraq. That we should have instead attacked the source- Afghanistan. Well now Obama has made Afghanistan his war. Watch out for what you wish for.

Instead of complaining, who owns a “war”. Try praying for the young people we send to “war”. Try finding out if their is some good somewhere in these countries. Being negative all the time and arguing with everyone, just make for a very depressing country. We need some good thought.

@ GNWachs: “Well now Obama has made Afghanistan his war. Watch out for what you wish for” . Well, that is what he said when people had tho choose - he wanted to scale down the war in Iraq and maintain that in Afghanistan. People voted for that. He did it. Maybe he was right, maybe not… we will see. I hope he was right, though - a country that is the world’s largest opium producer is a rich price for any extremist organization.

I know this, though - unlike Iraq, Afghanistan at least had an actual link to the people that attacked the US in 2001.

Is he suggesting that Obama invaded Afghanistan? Why isn’t Bush wearing two dunce caps, one for each war?

Man, what an insult to the people who died in Afghanistan under Bush’s watch. Hey, Gorrell, in honor of our soldiers, quit making things up!

Authors of a land war in Asia? You might be thinking, too, of Jack Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Afghanistan as the heart of the 9-11 attacks? Of course it wasn’t any more than Iraq was and still is no threat to us, even the great peace president is determined to pour more treasure and lives into this primitive, remote hellhole. Obama’s moronic continuation of the war there can’t be alibied away by droning on about Bush. Hell yes, Obama is dumber!!

@ Edgar - I think I pointed one above. It is not a very good one, granted, but sure beats the “if we get out of Iraq terrorists will get the oil profits” one pushed a while back.

I hope this is non-political post. Yesterday, I saw and recommend a very good movie. The Hurt Locker. It is the story of 3 men on a team of Americans soldiers in Iraq whose job it is to defuse bombs. Very powerful. Very depressing.

Montgomery was speaking specifically of Afghanistan. My fellow Chinook folks went there- in 1966, then we “pulled out”. My son’s friends are there now. We are moving toward a more rational policy, hopefully. Another friend, who went to school with my son, “survived” tours in EOD in Afghanistan and Iraq- he’s having trouble “adjusting”. Haven’t seen “Hurt Locker”, but lived it, and my son’s friend went to this specific one.

Comments on stupidity and war should be aimed at those who got us in, not those working to get us out, after horrible, horrible, errors were made, for nearly a decade.(This time around.)

ANY war is stupid. A complete waste of resources and, most of all, a complete waste of human lives on both sides…the politicians should get together and have a beer, and if they can’t settle their differences, then THEY should grab a gun/knife/’club and go at it themselves…whaddya want to bet we wouldn’t have but one small, extremely short war if we did it that way?

Winston Churchill visited Afghanistan when the British tried to occupy it about hundred years ago. He wrote then that every Afghanistan tribe was against every other tribe, but all the tribes were against the foreigner. Still true today, only now we are the foreigner.
