Legislation to prohibit the teaching of historically accurate systemic racism is a perfect example of the systemic racism it tries to deny.
Just as Qonservatives could not understand a long-range term like “global warming,” such that we had to use a term like “climate change” that would incorporate the short-term obvious fluctuations that even they could see, maybe instead of the term “critical race theory” that is obviously beyond the comprehension capabilities of their narrow minds, we should use a simpler term that even they can understand.
Instead of using the term “Critical Race Theory,” perhaps call it “Comprehensive Objective Multiple-Perspective History” that fills in important missing gaps that are too often omitted because some overly-sensitive people don’t want to include a full, honest study of history, and present it fully from the perspectives of all those who were a part of it and not just the dominant culture,.
Critical Theory refers to the analytical process of looking at an issue from a wide variety of perspectives, and testing the hypothesis against a full spectrum of all available evidence. When applied to the subject of the history of race relations, Critical RACE Theory just means examining the history through the ranges of all those affected, not just the dominant culture.
Any honest study of History is SUPPOSED to make people uncomfortable.
If your study of history doesn’t sometimes make you squirm, then maybe what you’re studying is not really “history.”
In a similar light, Fox (NOT) News has ben having interviews with people they identify as “angry parents protesting the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools”. It turns out that all of the (so-called) angry parents were also republican operatives, but were not identified as such. What I find interesting is that I saw a blurb for a show on Fox about the misinformation in the news media. I guess they were safe since their own lawyers say that they are an “Entertainment company” and not a news organization.
There is something different on today’s comic from Clay, I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I like it. It must be the shading technique or something!
Thankfully I spent 40+ years in college classrooms where nobody ever told me what I could or couldn’t teach. I sympathize with and support my K-12 colleagues.
This cartoon seems to adopt the questionable right-wing premise that CRT is part of public grade-school curricula.
(From the stick [of chalk?] in the woman’s hand, and of course the correct spelling, I infer that it was she who wrote “Critical Race Theory” on the chalkboard.)
It’s driving me nuts that everybody keeps saying “critical race theory”. It’s “critical theory”. You can apply it to race relations or anything else you want to. Putting “race” into the middle of it just keeps the ignorant idiots, like the Marmalade Moron, riled up because it’s misleading.
This reminds me of a college class about globalization. After learning about products made in U.S. territories that have few (if any) worker protections but they are marked “made in USA” and how loans are used to take control of resources in developing countries which limits their ability to grow their own economies, one student said,”what’s wrong with making money?”.
I went to school in the upper south in the 1960s, and every day was a real life lesson in critical race theory. I learned to recite the Pledge of Allegiance (With freedom and justice for all) in a segregated school. Our grade eleven English teacher would not allow the term “Civil War”; we had to say “War for Southern Independence”. The lunch counter at the local drug store was not open to “colored people” (as we said in those days). Life was a lesson in hypocrisy.
The Republicans: “It’s time for science class. Everybody open up your Bibles, and turn to the part that says ‘Thou shalt honor thy Republican teacher.’”

Yes! Republicans want big-government control over education in all states!
From now on, the GQP wants to treat every school as if it were a woman’s reproductive system!

If fascists don’t want something taught -and the GQP are now classic fascists – it is probably a good idea to teach it

The “victors” get to write history, one of many lessons trump must have missed.

They’ve been trying to legislate what teachers teach for a long time… the only thing that changes is which stories that they want changed…

You need to study history in order to legislate how it is taught. Study you know study right? Oh bugger it, never mind.
