The GQP standard response to “Critical Race Theory” is to deny that there’s any racism, so any theory about how to divide us into races is not just incorrect but immoral. Which would be true IF there were no racism. But hey, they don’t do “nuance” at all and they hardly do anything that’s not “lie”.
Just as Qonservatives could not understand a long-range term like “global warming,” such that we had to use a term like “climate change” that would incorporate the short-term obvious fluctuations that even they could see, maybe instead of the term “critical race theory” that is obviously beyond the comprehension capabilities of their narrow minds, we should use a simpler term that even they can understand.
Instead of using the term “Critical Race Theory,” perhaps call it “Comprehensive Objective Multiple-Perspective History” that fills in important missing gaps that are too often omitted because some overly-sensitive people don’t want to include a full, honest study of history, and present it fully from the perspectives of all those who were a part of it and not just the dominant culture,.
Critical Theory refers to the analytical process of looking at an issue from a wide variety of perspectives, and testing the hypothesis against a full spectrum of all available evidence. When applied to the subject of the history of race relations, Critical RACE Theory just means examining the history through the ranges of all those affected, not just the dominant culture.
Any honest study of History is SUPPOSED to make people uncomfortable.
If your study of history doesn’t sometimes make you squirm, then maybe what you’re studying is not really “history.”
If we cannot have a well-rounded discussion of race here in America, we will never get beyond the happy-talk stage of “Everything’s just peachy-keen here.”Oh, and I do understand that America is currently trying to deal with “blacks” and Asians, but if you wish to expand your horizons a bit more, “Google” the phrase “Nits make lice” and see what happened after an American military officer uttered those words (and, yes he was reprimanded for his actions – eventually).
This is so pathetic. This would have been the norm in the 50’s when I was growing up. The Republicans see everything as a threat, as part of cancel culture, and are boosted by the good folks at Fox. Give Trump kudos for his role in turning back the times.
As much as I don’t want to believe that racism permeates our history, the fact is that slavery was widespread for over 200 years and most people accepted that as normal. Then we had segregation for 100 years and most people accepted that as ok. And having gone through the Civil Rights era, I thought we had moved past that, but I’m seeing that we haven’t. If parents have to give their kids “ The Talk” about how to deal with police, there is something very wrong in our society.
Why can’t we all pretend none of this ever happened? Oh, and let’s charge the descendants of those Negro tourists who didn’t pay a nickel for their trip across the sea?
Republican and/or Conservative Race Theory: All those unpleasantries are safely in the past. Today there are only a few isolated racists and bad apple cops. There is no systemic racism. There is no inherent disadvantage in being a person of color. Teaching children and teens about the racism casts a shadow on the great and glorious history of the United States. Communities of color are groups and we only see individuals. The second panel should simply be a blank.
There has always been bigotry of all types. Racism and sexism have always been the easiest to push since the targets are easier to point out. Most bigotry comes from those who want to be superior to others but do not have the abilities to make themselves superior. They have to diminish everyone else in any way they can, so they lie. Those who want to rule others need a distraction so that the ones they want to rule won’t look at what they are doing. Look at signs like, “No Irish need apply”, or the claim that “it is all the fault of the Jews”. Keep pointing at “foreigners” and people won’t notice that you are picking their pockets and taking away their liberties.
Racism HAS been, and still is, systemic. In World War I, Negro troops were put into their own units (with White officers) and often sent into the bloodiest battles (“Why risk White people, plus you kill more of them off.”) When they came home from the War, they lost many of the liberties the had won on the battlefields. They could be killed with impunity since no white man would be convicted of killing a black man. These are some of the things that republicans want to seep under the carpet.
The most comprehensive analysis of shipping records over the course of the slave trade is the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, edited by professors David Eltis and David Richardson. (While the editors are careful to say that all of their figures are estimates, I believe that they are the best estimates that we have, the proverbial “gold standard” in the field of the study of the slave trade.) Between 1525 and 1866, in the entire history of the slave trade to the New World, according to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, 12.5 million Africans were shipped to the New World. 10.7 million survived the dreaded Middle Passage, disembarking in North America, the Caribbean and South America.
And how many of these 10.7 million Africans were shipped directly to North America? Only about 388,000. That’s right: a tiny percentage.
In fact, the overwhelming percentage of the African slaves were shipped directly to the Caribbean and South America; Brazil received 4.86 million Africans alone! Some scholars estimate that another 60,000 to 70,000 Africans ended up in the United States after touching down in the Caribbean first, so that would bring the total to approximately 450,000 Africans who arrived in the United States over the course of the slave trade.
The cultists of the formerly “grand” old party WANT to forget about the racist past so they can have a jolly racist future, and keep their power over the rest of us forever.

Emmett Till was lynched by Southern Democrats. Remember, during this era the South was full-on Democrat and very much anti equal rights.
