Our ancestors did some wonderful things. They also did some bad things—-the treatment of Native Americans and slavery. Both sides of the story need to be told.

Teaching the racist history of a country is supposed to educate and prevent further racism; celebrating it (Confederate statues and flag) or “whitewashing it” (most Southern history books) just enables it.
