Not too often that I agree w/ Gorrell, but lately it sure does seem to me that Manchin has changed sides. I understand his “need” to be a right-wing Democrat, but if he’s going to caucus w/ the Dems, then he has to support the party at least a FEW times… when it matters.
Goofy Gorrell seems to forget that Democrats don’t sanction or primary their members, just because they don’t see exactly eye to eye. Republicans can’t say the same thing.
just with the text on the button changed and some eye lids drawn in.
The filibuster is like the NFL having a rule where someone from the opposing team gets to hold the football during any field goal or extra point attempt. Democrats hold the football for the Republican kicker, because that’s the rule, but when it’s Democrats turn to kick a field goal, the Republican holding the ball pulls the football away and tosses it to their team on defense who run it in for a touchdown, which the referees deem legal and what the founders of football intended.
Manchin’s argument is basically “if we can’t convince 10 people on the other team to let us kick a field goal, we shouldn’t get to score the points, I believe if we play well enough, fans of the other side will start cheering for us, and the Republican team will let us kick a field goal.”
Republicans are not debating in good faith. They do not benefit from a compromise. They have said out loud that their goal is only to stop Biden’s agenda. Believe them.
The filibuster is not a tool to allow bipartisan debate, it only exists to obstruct.
The Republicans filibustered legislation to investigate 1/6. If both sides can’t agree to investigate a terror attack on the Capitol, where domestic terrorists killed a police officer, and would have killed Mike Pence and members of congress if they had the chance, then there’s no common ground. There’s just one side trying to destroy democracy, while the other side does nothing to stop them.
After living in WV for over a decade, Manchin doesn’t surprise me at all. He does faithfully represent much of that State: likes to pretend to be a for-the-little-guy Democrat, but actually embraces alt-righteousness…
Right wing leaning cartoonists are on a roll today trolling common sense readers with ignorant cartoons. Behind the scenes, corporate Dems are thanking Manchin for taking the heat for fighting any bills that threaten corporate interests from increasing minimum wage to getting corporate money out of elections.
Manchin is doing what every other person working in government does: preserving his job. Being noble and doing the right thing in politics doesn’t lead to job security.

Well, Manchin (despite current party affiliation) is at least a regular Republican (or what actual Republicans used to be).

Manchin’s looking out for Manchin. If he doesn’t, then you get a Republican in his seat.

Manchin really needs to declare which team he plays for since none of them are on TEAM USA.
