Astoundingly enough, Biden is actually in contact with the Republican designated negotiator(s). And even more amazing: They seem to be converging on a bill that will be little, late, and poorly funded. And better than nothing… MUCH better than what the GQP would do if still in charge.
I do not want to say this but it may come down to Biden chatting up the Dinos like Sinema and Manchin along with the least far right Repubbas like the ladies from Maine and Alaska and see what the biggest deal he can get a few of them to agree to in order to get the 50 necessary votes. I hate saying this as this will be a very watered down version of whatever Biden initially had on paper and will leave most of us progressives feeling cheated yet again. Until the Senate gets at least a couple more true blue seats (and hoping the house does not tilt red in 2022 as Pelosi’s margin for error is only slightly more advantageous than Schumer’s) this might be the best Joe can hope for through reconciliation to avoid a filibuster. I wanted a president more progressive than Joe but I doubt if someone like Bernie or Liz Warren would be having anymore success than Joe though I think they would be far more aggressive and vocal in calling out the far right and the muddling compromising Centrists.
Reality is a bitch. Vote Democratic in 2022 if you want a better bargaining position. If you did that in 2016 and more in 2020, Biden wouldn’t be in this position. Crying about him not being more progressive means nothing.

As they make it harder to vote, making us jump through hoops to vote then we must jump through every hoop they put in front of us, climb over every wall and obstacle they put in our way, turn out in greater numbers than we did in 2020, vote them out and change the laws.
If President Biden accepts the Qpublican offer of a much smaller infrastructure bill, the Q’s will have won through intransigence. Don’t expect their cooperation on future legislature. Just push through the bill desired by the Dems.
They may or may not reach a “bipartisan” bill, but I’m fairly confident in saying that the R’s will vote against it and they’ll blame Biden in 2024 for crumbling infrastructure.
We here in Colorado should have the country’s best roads and bridges as in the mid 2000s we got a hefty increase in vehicle registration fees with that “found money” being used for improvement. I suppose it is happening but right now I drive over roads that for some part suffer from the usual winter damage but then see spots that are chronically beat up. We do have good roads but bad road sections are still out there.
after all the spending on covid relief . . I think its time to pay down that debt with increased taxes on the rich…and cutting loopholes. .. . leave the increased “infrastructure” for another day
Biden is doing what needs to be done with a razor thin majority for the Dems in both the House and Senate. Plus he also has to deal with the remaining blue dogs in the Senate like Sen. Manchin (WV) and Sen. Sinema (AZ). Despite Manchin nixing the We the People Act (at least for the time being), I continue to be hopeful that Biden and the Congressional Democrats will accomplish enough to enable them to widen their majority in the House and Senate. In the meantime they have to keep playing the hand they’ve been dealt.
