Rand Paul started the latest edition of the smear train on Thursday when he issued a fundraising pitch insisting that Fauci “must go” and claiming that Fauci—who was forced to correct Paul over and over in Senate hearings—was “continuously and deliberately misleading the public at every turn.” He provided no examples, but insisted that someone must “fire Fauci!”

I have wondered whether johnhbagget is really a denizen of the Quniverse or a Russian Troll. I don’t have a particularly high opinion of the average human in some ways, but also have a very difficult time believing anybody could be stupid/ignorant/gullible enough to believe that story.

Not shutting them down, not even saying anything. Is the GOP doing/saying nothing because those office holders are all big fans of Trump? I’ve never had much use for any of the political parties and have lived long enough to watch them change dramatically and even flip positions, but what has happened to the GOP is both very sad and scary. It went from establishment/conservative/corporate to revolutionary/regressive/theo-fascist. Started down that road with Nixon, accelerated under Reagan, turned nasty with Gingrich, and coalesced and came out in the open with Trump, Pence, and McConnell. I don’t think it’s salvageable and wonder what’s going to happen, since we need a rational counter to the democrats and I don’t see one.
