I have pointed out on several occasions that the staying power of groups from the late 60’s and 70’s is STILL being played in stores, restaurants, radio stations, etc.
And several generations later, the youngsters can recognize the songs.
I went into a S.D. Tower Records ’way back when and they had Suicidal Tendencies playing…I toyed with the idea of going to the turntable and smashing the record. It would have been worth the $7.95 and a trip to the local lock-up to rid the world of such as that. Ugh. Call me Mister Reactionary.
It’s interesting in movies made in the later fifties or very early sixties when rock and roll was hot, they always have the young hipsters listening or dancing to some generic big band arrangement from the forties. Guess you had to be there.

(thinking…) “Hmmm. I’d like to hear some awesome Led Zeppelin right now.”
(speaking) “Play me that rock song that was on the radio over half a century ago.”
(feel old now?) ;-)

When I heard my daughter listening to Billy Joel I smiled and said I liked him too. She said, “Yeah, I like the oldies.”

One of the pivotal moments of my life was when I was listening to “Classic Rock” station and they played Nirvana. I was mortified.

Check out Rick Beato on YouTube, he explains why today’s music (by and large) plain and simple just sucks…

Let’s all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before Megan Thee Stallion was born
Though she was born a long, long time ago,
Megan Thee Stallion should know (aaah-ah),
Megan Thee Stallion should know.

I like to wave my cane around to “Alice Blue Gown” by Teddy and the Rough Riders. Great ophicleide solo by Percival J. Dunwoody, too.

Farts Domino; Rolling Stones; CCR; Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band. These, generally. And then there some one-offs, too.
Nothing good since the ’80s, in the opinion of this Old Fart!
