I LOVE exercising… when it’s doing something I love (hiking along a chuckling stream, dancing with friends… And I hate it when it’s some damned BORING piece of equipment with some damned number of reps that I have to keep track of in some damned room that smells like old sweat. Though I do tolerate a bit of boredom every day when I do some stretches, lifts and scrunches… while (still) in bed. It’s become habit.
I’ve never figured out the so-called “Runner’s High.” I tried running for a while, and even got relatively decent at it, but I never enjoyed it; and definitely never got the supposed euphoric feeling runners claim to feel.
You should find an exercise you like. Sports, walking in the wood, gardening, something physical that you enjoy and then you get exercise and fun at the same time.
I don’t exactly dread exercise but can think of a million excuses not to do my daily workout … the only thing that motivates me is the guilt I feel when I don’t exercise. I definitely don’t enjoy the daily routine and am relieved when I’m finished but certainly don’t have an endorphin rush.
Why do I bother? Aside from the vanity of facing myself in a full-length mirror, I know, deep down, that staying in shape beats the alternative, and is better and cheaper than meds, doctor visits, and hospital stays.
Over at Comics Kingdom, where “Pearls” and “Big Nate” are neighboring strips, the insidious cheez doodle plague has claimed both Nate and Pig. Who’s next? Is anyone doing anything about this?

Pig was stretching and “exercising” while watching his dreaded Tivo recordings of Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel.

I dread getting out of bed in the morning AND it burns more calories than sleeping. That’s my exercise.

You would get more exercise if you didn’t use the remote. Maybe pushing the buttons would be considered finger exercises

A valid definition of exercise. It scares me when I agree with Rat.

I’ve read that if you love exercise, it works even better. I suspect if it works better, you’re more likely to love it.

So – knowing that okra is being served for dinner is kind of like exercise?

Instead of “only exercise if” I believe pig meant to say “exercise only if”.

Don’t exercise because you need to. Exercise so that, on your deathbed, you can say “At least I don’t need to f***ing exercise any more!”
