At my house my husband would have given you cereal. Scrambled egg if you begged. LOL

Reminds me of putting cans of c- rations in the manifold of the 5 ton or deuce 1/2 I was driving to get them warm for later. Opened with a P38. Spaghetti and meatballs were the best. Long time ago. lol

I suppose they’re “Boston Baked Beans” given they’re “Bean Town” brand!

I remember surprising my kids once with dinner being a whole package of Oreos & a cold gallon of milk. (6 of us)

My wife likes baked beans with a big dollop of cottage cheese in the middle.

Dad certainly wouldn’t be putting cheese out, with Spud there.

When Dad cooked the food was good, but then again, Mom prepped meals in advance when she was going to miss dinner.

Sometime between midnight and one AM, our bus pulled into a cold, dark station somewhere on I-80 in Nebraska. We had ten or fifteen minutes, so I looked around and found a vending machine with cans of Beanee Weenie. HEATED CANS of Beanee Weenie.

As anyone who has to listen to me much will tell you, that was one of the best meals I ever had. Like, good enough to weep over.

I had meals like that in the field while in the Army. They would separate the meal cans from the rations box, boil them and the guys got in line and you never knew what you were getting. The good old days…..

Oh c’mon, Wallace’s dad, even I can cook better than that! At least cook up like a box of mac and cheese or something!

You’d think that a fisherman would be able to clean and cook some kind of fish. However, beans are pretty good, and certainly easy.

Dad could up his game with a can of Vienna sausages. Maybe some cinnamon with the sugar, over toast. Go crazy guys.

Spud’s objection isn’t to the food itself – it is to the unsanitary nature of not having a separate plate. Well he might be objecting to the dessert …

When I was a teenager, my specialty was baked beans on buttered toast. My younger companion thought it was awesome…it kind of was.

How’d he cook the beans in the can? If he put the can in a pot of water, the label would have come off

The fact that the jagged lid is still attached is the pièce de résistance to this terrible effort. I mean really, put 15 minutes effort into it. If dinner is that poorly planned, being 15 minutes later won’t make a difference to such a well thought out schedule. :D

No plates, mediocre at best fare. Likely heated on the stovetop, JUST enough for the can to burn you if touched, yet the beans somehow STILL cold. Everyone shoving their spoon into the same container, straight to their mouths and back again. If I could have the first spoonful, I’d eat that to be polite. Maybe. I have no desire to live the life of the railroad bum huddling around an old can of preservative-laden beans under some rusty trestle bridge. Oh, and a tablespoon of sugar. Awful. Is there a 2 Dollar bottle of wine in a wrinkled paper bag to pass around after, to wash down this repast?

Spud has a point. Dessert should be confectioner’s sugar.
