What? Nick, are you alluding to the fact that practically all congressional republicans are lying, two-faced brown nosers who place party over country?
Maybe Whitewater and Benghazi are good reasons to let another body or entity investigate 6 Jan. What has 30 years of Congressional investigations of Whitewater produced?
Does anyone realize that there was nearly as many Americans killed on Jan 6th as at Benghazi. So why would the Republicans not investigate when they wanted to know who was responsible for Benghazi? /s
Snort. Not funny, even though it made me chuckle. And not true either: Paranoids are very very good at noticing when people are attacking them. And you can be sure they know that an inquiry into the January 6th debacle would be an attack on them.
Still waiting for the commission to investigate the POtuS for the tens of thousands deaths, under his watch, due to his lies and criminal inaction/ineptitude during the pandemic…
Republicans have spent over $250 MILLION on not less than 12 investigations into Benghazi because 4 Americans died, while trying to prevent a 9/11 commission (they had to back down from their opposition) investigating 3,000 American murders AND history repeats itself in their efforts to prevent a 1/06 commission to investigate 6 American deaths, because they don’t want their direct role in the events to be part of the official record….
The last thing the Republicans want is a parade of Capital police officers recounting what happened to them on January 6. Hint: It wasn’t an orderly tour.
Based on the information available to the general public, any unbiased investigation of the events in Washington D.C on January 6th would almost certainly conclude, among other things, that Donald Trump committed Sedition. That’s basically the same thing as Treason, just without a foreign power being obliviously involved. Treason/Sedition is a Federal crime and would be tried in Federal Court, not the Senate. The original punishments in the constitution included the death penalty for Treason and in all cases as substitutes for death, substantial prison sentences and fines and ineligibility for holding any government position. As a federal felony it would also mean losing the right to vote, posses a firearm, etc. In his case it “should” also mean losing the post-presidential benefits that the taxpayers are paying for and he is milking (see the unprecedented bill for renting a room to the Secret Service at Mar-A-Lago during and after his presidency). Another consideration is that by US law anyone adding and abetting a crime (which certain senators are by definition doing when they attempt to downplay or deny it) is by definition an accessory to that crime and also liable for it. No wonder “Certain Senators” don’t want the incident investigated!

That’s it. Just call the 1/6 commission a new Benghazi commission.
