Veterans Day is to honor those who served, Memorial Day is to commemorate those who died while serving.

So, if you eat too much of your favorite food too often, you get tired of it, right? Do you suppose that applies to holidays?

I am a US Army Veteran and a boots-on-the-ground Vietnam Veteran. Veterans Day honors living persons like myself. Memorial Day honors my relatives who served in World War II and are now deceased. It is NOT redundant and no connection with “tautology.”

In either case, there is reason for prayers for the fallen, the wounded, their loved ones, and those still serving. The world has not yet run out of wars.

And Frazz is also correct in that he implies too little is being done for all who are affected.

    There’s A Difference:

Armed Forces Day (3rd Saturday of May) is for those who currently wear the uniform.

Veterans Day (November 11th) is for those who used to wear the uniform.

Memorial Day (last Monday of May) is for those who never made it out of uniform.

All gave some; some gave all…today is for remembering those who gave their lives so that we might enjoy ours…in November we thank those who came home for their service…but we should do both everyday. [ex-1323 USNR]

There are very important distinctions that people need to realize.

Memorial Day honors those that died in service to their country.Veterans Day honors those that served.Armed Forces Day honors those that are currently serving.

I understand the feelings of gratitude felt by many of such days of grim remembrance. But I can’t help thinking about the human greed and evil that is at the source of conflicts. So days like today leave me sad and depressed.

My father was a Marine during the Korean War. I was very young when he taught me the memorable lesson of the difference between the two days. This day is not about veterans.

There is a HUGE difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. This would have been a good forum to let young folks know that on Memorial Day we honor those men and women that died in service to their country. They gave their lives for our freedom. Veteran’s Day honors all the women and men that were WILLING to give their lives to protect America.

Someone doesn’t know the difference between remembering those that gave their all and those that are still with us and protecting us. You need to see the decorations at Arlington on Memorial day or any other day, that may help you remember,

Read to the end of the cartoon. Frazz says ’it’s a start.’ I believe he was saying that two holidays honoring the military, one for those that passed, one for those still here is a start for honoring the military.

Frazz and Jef Mallett owe all who have served in the military an apology, through his comic strip. The 5/31/2021 strip is OFFENSIVE with current socialist political speak embedded. While contemporary, the message weakens his readers to understand their freedom comes at a high price paid by others.

Adults of course should know the difference, but it’s a legitimate question from a little kid. Here’s my fond hope for how that question will be answered in the future: “Yes, children, we still observe Memorial Day, because centuries ago — can you believe it? — people used to work out their disagreements by killing each other. We need to remember this so it never happens again.”

Go over to Red and Rover to see how an artist commemorates Memorial Day. As opposed to the drivel in this strip.
