And just How did Tiffany get that “A?”

With Bets’ help with studying last April.

I’m seeing someone burying the hatchet, and calling Bets with a “thank you,” only to find that Bets has gone “M.I.A.”

    Oh.

If You back to the “studying arc,” Bets mentions that she’s never been anywhere and Tiffany suggests a trip to Paris. (Bets wanted to go to Japan)

Could there be an all expenses paid “besties” overseas road trip for Bets in the future? Or at the very least, a for real romantic pirate dinner at the Farrell mansion?

Provided Bets can ever be found, that is.

Tiff probably described the assignment but left anyone else’s input out. Also, she probably fudged what happened at the last.

“Oh, my customers were so pleased and said it was a wonderful experience.”

It would be interesting to see the actual project report. Especially the last part.

Good for Tiffany. I presume she did her report of TTFT-2. And fortunately for her, she had access to daddy’s money in order to absorb the loss from TTFT-1.

I wonder if Tiff plans to try to make TTFT a real venture. If so she could use some help with marketing her product over the interwebs.

Ah, it appears that in spite of everything we saw on-panel, Tiffany’s business model was a success. An outcome achieved by author mandate rather than a logical progression of events. I wish we all had the power of Deus ex Machina on our side. Or should we call it Deus ex Profita?

Still though, it’s nice to see Tiffany get a win. Those are rare for her, and as boneheaded as the idea was, she did work hard at it.

It appears that Tiff’s microeconomics prof liked Tiff’s business model better than Bets did. However, Tiff and her coworkers know enough among them to figure out how badly the trial run went for Gunther. Specifically, Tiff and Ox saw Bets departing angrily with Gunther in tow, and Les knows that Gunther has been am emotional wreck—and that Bets has been incommunicado—for weeks, starting from when Gunther returned home on the night of the planned “romantic dinner.”

Will the gang at The Fuse talk among themselves and put the pieces together? I’ll go out on a limb and predict they will.

Will any of them try to do something about it? And, if so, what? I don’t know. Guess I’ll just stay ’tooned and wait to find out.

If you run a great seafood restaurant and a customer comes in and is mad that you don’t have hot dogs on the menu it can still be a great seafood restaurant. That’s what happened here. She wasn’t being graded on the restaurant but on the concept for a new business and how she market it.

She was probably graded on the fact that she did in fact pull everything off – the decor, the dinner, etc. It was Bets’ decision to leave.

And Tiffany may have had to simply submit her business plan instead of actually taking about implementing it. That was Bets’ idea so she could put it on the internet.

here’s a possible set of events that will lead Ox, Les (and others) to better understanding of Gunther’s woes. (1) Tiff explains what happened between her and Bets (2) Luann walks in (maybe later) and says that she and Bern found Gunther slone in the parking lot of Weenie World in after Bets abandoned him; G may have told all of this to Les but coming from someone else puts it into persepctive. Also, we need to know if Bets is still in contact with Tiff. Will Tiff , Ox and TJ do round 2 of the romantic dinners as they suggested?

I’ve admittedly been out of college for a looonnngg while (I’m almost 72), but from what I recall, most of the ‘theory of’ type papers I turned in explained how I would do a certain thing. Not how I actually did it and what the results were. So if Tiffany turned in a paper just summarizing her concept and didn’t report on what happened when customers (Gunther and Bets) arrived, then Tiffany most likely fulfilled the requirements of her class. And I’m not sure why posters are thinking that Tiffany will show the paper to Bets; if Bets has ‘vanished’, how would that happen?

I am very pleased on several fronts here today for Tiffany:

    1. She did not get flustered or self-doubting after Bets’ unfortunate behavior…. and still wrote out and submitted her marketing/dining concept for her class…. and did very well!!!!!

    2. She is showing enthusiasm for her college work, which is truly one of the most important attributes to have to drive success in college.

    3. The pleasure/relief/joy/excitement she is displaying in the last panel…. so very nice to see on Tiffany’s face. That sort of expression has been extremely scant for her of late.

    * *

    Other thoughts:

    a) I also like having TJ shown today…. very nice. Even though his role is (at least currently minor) it is nice to see him, and also see his happiness for Tiffany’s success.

    b) I like that Ox makes a “sort-of-vocabulary” type joke today. It is nice to see him being portrayed with a gentle humor to match his empathetic nature.

    c) So, it leads to the question… what will happen next? Will Tiffany be informed about Gunther’s plight and she will go visit him? Will perhaps both Tiffany and Ox go visit him? Might even TJ tag along? Or… will we simply be segueing into a story arc at and about “The Fuse”…. and leave Gunther’s story to continue to simmer for a while longer?

Here’s another aspect to consider. Tiffany must have known Bets and Gunther were going to show up dressed as pirates. Had she included pictures of her pirate-garbed clients enjoying high class fine dining in her write up, there’s no way she would have gotten an A. Not in a course in Marketing.

Good for you, Tiffany! So what’s next? Will the business plan be implemented? For those doubters, her business plan went well, successful dinner, nice music, proper romantic atmosphere; it was Bets’s plan that went wrong according to Bets. Is this the moment TJ mentions Gunther and Bets leaving and then Les enters or Ox says Gunther’s in a funk? So many ways this can go. But I would like to see Tiffany get her business going.;-)

A proposal. On the evening of the Disputed Dinner, the reality is that what was done, was done. Tiff didn’t have the ability to just switch everything to pirates. She spent money and time to put on the sophisticated and romantic French dinner. Her client and date march in as cosplay pirates, and client is unhappy. What to do now?

Tiff could have played along and tried to meet them halfway. “Fine! Be pirates having a classy meal” just drips with contempt. She had a GREAT idea and just needed to SELL IT properly.

Tiff could have set a scene… emphasize the link between the French and New Orleans. The governor and his wife are having a ball, and their rich friends are all in attendance. Meanwhile, they are unaware of a pirate ship, anchored just out of cannon range. A skiff is rowed in the dark, unseen and unheard by the garrison. Fearsome pirates, with plunder on their mind, beat down the doors. The party attendees gasp. The governor and his wife hastily flee out a side door. The pirates, accustomed to only hard tack and rum, are astonished by the food at the table. They’d NEVER tasted anything like that before! The hostess, fearing for her life, offers the pirates a dining experience fit for a governor. (snaps fingers at harpist. Harpist switches to “Yo ho, a Pirate’s Life For Me”).

See? With a little imagination, both sides could “win”. The money was already spent, the staff hired and the food prepared. Make the most of it and transfigure it into the Ultimate Pirate Experience.

The assignment was to create a concept for marketing class, not necessarily a full business plan and certainly not a test run. She could have used what she learned from the disastrous event to improve her concept and marketing plans for it without claiming that her test run went well.

Tiff’s concept was very sound but her initial execution stunk. The fan base may have turned against Bets on that fateful strip but she was right about how that evening went.

It’s all for naught; Bets is a vehicle for Gunther’s growth. Eventually, she will be put on a bus alongside Aaron Hill, Delta, Pru, Oz, Tara and Rosa. Eventually, G-&-K will explore Tiff stiffled romantic feelings towards Gunther. My money is on Tiff-&-Gunther becoming an item in the future.

So there seems to be some disagreement about pirates and fine dining. Pirates were rich. They had lavish tastes. They drank the best rum and wine to be had. They plundered jewels and gold but they also stole shipments of fine foods and other delicacies. Their banquet tables would have made the King of England blush. Bets however, on the night in question, showed up looking like a deck hand. Gunther actually looked more pirate elite. They could have agreed to dine fine, dressed accordingly and had a great night. But no. So good for Tiffany getting the A!

A business plan that wouldn’t work unless her dad owned a mansion doesn’t seem like a “A” to me. Or using friends for staff either. I guess she could rent some place out and hire people, but that would cut into profits.

A plan around her experience with high end clothes shopping seems more in line with her personality to me. Purchasing agent for a big clothing company or something along those lines.

Gunther would know who Nancy DeGroot is because (a) he crushed on Luann while in high school and it would be very unlikely that he never went near enough to her house to occasionally see her parents; (b) Gunther, like many of the other characters, goes to The Fuse and sees Nancy working there; and, as an observant individual, Gunther could figure out who she is because she looks like her daughter.

Nancy DeGroot would know who Gunther is because most good parents make themselves aware of people their children associate with.

Sorry to have pushed your button. I forgot that since you have anger against Irma and usually attribute most of Gunther’s problems to her ‘bad parenting’, that you would not be at all favorably disposed toward another character’s mother.
