You can now spend as much on three or four streaming services as you can on a cable subscription.

in the 50s we had ABC, CBS, and NBC and that was it. we changed the channel and volume by walking up to the tv and turning a dial and the shows were in black and white.

It is NOT cheap to be wise with money. Only people with a lot of debt talk about other people being cheap.

We have cable – which is rather expensive even at low level package (& mid pandemic with no warning they dropped our package and dropped us down a package with additional charges for HBO & Showtime) around $200 a month with our Internet service (no telephone service). We were looking to get rid of it and save money. But we found that to piece together the non-premium services we watch would cost more than the cable costs us now.

We do not get streaming services unless they are included in another service (such as our HBO from cable includes HBOMax) as what we pay now is expensive to us & we are not going to pay more.

I have a 92yo mother who cannot understand that we do not have Netflix, Amazon etc. She had them when she lived at home & Netflix comes through on her assisted living residence’s TV setup of channels. “It is only $8 a month.” Mom is an accountant so she should under that is almost another hundred dollars a month. “What do you mean you don’t have Amazon – it comes with your Prime .” No, we don’t. We don’t order anything unless we absolutely need it & no other way to get it as we always have problems with deliveries (& have had a number of both during stay at home including food delivered by FedEx for Walmart in which over cans were dented to the point of unusable, as well as damaged packages and plastic bottles of oil & a laptop which had to be shipped for warranty repair which came back by UPS & was left on our front steps (well, better than the food of the driveway where most packages are left) Saturday late afternoon/early evening with rain coming the next day – when we were no expecting until after we notified it was being shipped & I found by accident when I went to put something in our mail box for pickup by a friend or the laptop would be have been drowned – so no, we don’t have Amazon Prime.

Has been important to have TV for diversion the last year (and in general) but the cost of what we have now is too high let alone add more.
