Well marked courses are very nice. And too damned rare. Our town hosts a triathlon almost every year (not last year) that runs on the same road… at the same time… as we drive to the farmers market, so we encounter it about yearly. THAT race has monitors, with hand-held stop signs at EVERY automotive road intersection. And volunteers with “go this way” flags at every place where the other ones aren’t already in place. Probably about 500 racers and 800 volunteers, seems like from over here where I sit. (Must be nice, though).

We have several boulevards with islands the size of small parks and abandoned trolly tracks that have been converted to gravel running paths that make up our big runs. The other one is taking laps on the circle road in an underground limestone mine.

The Detroit Marathon is international. Runners start in the US downtown Detroit and cross the bridge into Windsor Ont. run from the bridge back to the tunnel then cross back into the US for the rest of the run. I’ve worked the “Go this way” flag at the bridge. You might think it wouldn’t be needed, but it is the first two miles of the race in October and it is still dark and part of the bridge is still open for international truck traffic. Plus part of the job is to check to see if everyone has the right color ID number that says they have been OK’d to cross the boarder so they don’t have to stop and show a passport going or coming.

I didn’t realize this was such a political cartoon. I thought it was just a joke.

I never thought Frazz and friends would complain about too much running.

I’m so lost too. Eight-year-olds, who are up on current events and the “Classics”, being educated and cleaned up after by adults that get lost in their own (frequently traveled) neighborhood.

Frazz16 hrs · You’d think it would be simple: There’s Done, and there’s Not Done. Ten percent done is Not Done. Ninety percent done is Not Done. Tempting as lights at the end of tunnels can be, only Done is Done.

But I think there are variations in Not Done. Ten percent done and feeling frustrated is Very Not Done. But the absolute most not done is 90 Percent done and careless. Also called Just About Done.

I read some really inappropriate political-leaning comments on this page a couple of days ago that isn’t here now. Did GoComics sensor this stuff and remove it?
