Been there, done that, but isn’t Grandma eligible for Food Stamps? Or a free lunch for Agnes? Some schools are giving free lunches to all of the students to avoid the stigma.
As someone who has been fortunate enough never to suffer from food insecurity, I appreciate Agnes and some of the commenters here reminding us that it is far from uncommon in this country.

I grew up eating Spam because it was what we could afford. I never knew any different, so I liked it just fine.
