The border crossing disaster is the direct result of actions by DONALD TRUMP.

The most immediate and obvious cause is that, in a direct attempt to sabotage Biden’s ability to deal with border issues, Trump and his media abettors sent out the FALSE message that Biden supports “open borders” and that they would be welcomed. This is not true, but created FALSE HOPE and dangled a DISHONEST invitation, which Trump did on purpose to create more border chaos. With the humanitarian exception of UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN and the legal exceptions for those who qualify as legitimate refugees, Biden is NOT allowing immigrants to enter illegally.

The second and most foundational cause is that Trump destroyed the solutions that Obama had successfully put in place. It takes years to build bridges, but minutes to blow them up. Obama built on solutions developed under Clinton and Dubya Bush, who had decent immigration policies, to address the systemic problems IN THE SOURCE COUNTRIES, whose indigenous populations, largely the ethnic indigenous Mayans of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras had been oppressed and persecuted by governments, including military dictatorships, that had been installed and propped up by Republican administrations under Reagan and Nixon, and earlier under Eisenhower under the leadership of the Dulles brothers (his secretary of state and CIA chief).

Under the economic assistance and stabilization policies of Clinton, Bush II and capped off by Obama to undo the damage of decades of U.S.-caused damage, illegal border crossings under Obama had been brought to a FORTY YEAR LOW.

Then, in a single day, Trump just cut off all aid. No phase out, just abruptly pulling out the rug. Just blew up the bridge that had taken decades to build and which Biden must now rebuild.

Well THAT’s a nicely drawn projection.

Ms. Benson, I think you need to increase your meds…

Now Lisa, you and Conservatives know these unaccompanied minors are not arriving at the invitation of Biden or Harris. They’ve been trying to escape all the violence in those countries as result of instability that the US and some European countries are directly and indirectly responsible for enabling. All Trump’s GOP did was ignore the real issues.

Thank you, Lisa, for a truly funny cartoon! We laughed out loud. The Kamala balloon showing how effective she is at her designated responsibility, plus the broken gates on both sides of the booth suggesting a crushing rush past the booth, are hilarious.

Seriously, though, in talking with various folks who slipped across the border in various ways over the last couple of decades, they come for two major reasons:

1. They are escaping the hell created by the illegal drug trade. Legalize all the drugs, make those who commit crimes under the influence of drugs at least as culpable as those who commit crimes sober, tax the drugs to fund rehab centers, have the FDA control the quality, make imposing drugs on those of us who decline to use drugs a crime, and be done with it.

2. They are looking to profit, on a small personal scale, from the foreign exchange rate, as rich people do on a larger scale. They come up here to work for US dollars, then take or send them home to support their families and build a better life for themselves. The artificial exchange rate makes it possible to take a few dollars from here and buy a lot in ‘less developed’ countries. Just ask some expats. It also makes it possible to pay our workers less, because they are competing with labor that is interested in the dollars for their exchange value, and so can cheerfully work for less. Even the fact that employers here sometimes stiff illegals who are here for that purpose (because of the threat of having them deported if they complain) does not deter them, although they don’t like it. Figure out how to set the exchange rate so that an hour of human labor costs the same wherever you go, and this problem will also disappear.

There are other reasons, but eliminate these, and the problem will be more manageable.
