I can see where Lars (Miller) is coming from on this. It resembles an older SF trope in which the human race either will or won’t get off Earth before we render it uninhabitable, or in a related version, before our culture spends itself into a position where it cannot afford to make it to space. And, just as with those tropes, the trick will be for the people who use the internet well to do it well — and quickly — enough to get the society past the “juvenile idiocy” stage.
Good one, Wiley. By demographics and interests a few more through your spin might be able to get the importance of the message that is still ignored or rejected by many.
Nature has always been designed to have “checks and balances” such that at least some survive to propagate. Humans came to compete with each other as well as the other animal/plant species. That was initially just physical differences but as we developed mentally, do did the ways to compete. War and illness were prime factors.
With the advancement of medicine, we had begun to outrun ourselves with population. That tilted the playing field against us; and now technology has given us a tool to tweak mentality back a few generation and begin to put things back in balance. Pandemics don’t work if everyone plays along with common sense.
The forgotten truth (if ever widely understood) is that technology alone cannot increase food production beyond the amount of sunlight the Earth receives each day. That’s our only energy input.
Its not all humanity that is intent on self-destruction, just the white ones. The indigenous peoples were all doing just fine until the Europeans showed up.
It is the immaturity of the species to use and handle it.
We have not improved much in that department since one of the first cave-persons, Og, said: “what could possibly go wrong?” and tried to milk a woolly mammoth.
Speaking just for myself, I love the internet. I can find pics and videos of old motorcycles, aeroplanes, boats and such. And there are lots of fellow pandas, who want to show me how to do something. (not always useful) And of course, it allows me to have my friends in ‘’The Funny Pages’’.
Folks are still hammering Gore for that one misinterpreted statement. Yes, it could have been worded better but some people will takt the opposite side of whatever anyone says or twist it to suit.
I believe Al Gore has more than redeemed any negative reviews with his efforts to promote An Inconvenient Truth, a truly professional and accurate presentation of the dire environmental situation in which the world found itself at that time. Since 2006, many predictions shown have become fact and we are closer to the red line than most might believe.
So make fun of the one statement that draws all the laughs. But look for his presentation about the environment and you will weep.
And, of course, when those who are helping worsen the situation by careless environmental disregard see the series, they will be the first to say, WHY ISN’T SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!??!. Look in the mirror, Chum. There’s the person responsible.
“imploding in apocalyptic stupidity”. Don’t laugh, it happened in 2016 and nearly happened again in 2020. It did happen again on January 6, 2021. Vote 2022, 2024.
I’m surprized Lars is still here. You’d think making friends with the test subjects would have got him either sent home or executed, depending on what sort of government his people have.
How could the kids talk to Lars? Those bubbles are constructed from hyper-flexic myropalimium. As we all know, no sound energy can pass through that. And don’t suggest a window, you know better. Wiley is getting sloppy with the physics. Sad.
“Ha, ha, don’t worry, girls. I was only referring to the implosion of an advanced species. You guys should be safe for another millennium at a minimum.”
