I’d call him Michael Collins, quietly cruising out of sight and earshot over the far side of the moon while his crewmates still had to deal with annoying commands from Mission Control.

See, Blossom would wash herself in full view and then look at me like, “Do you mind?” I mean, if you’re going to bathe yourself in public, you should expect people to notice!

I sympathise with Puck. You go to all the trouble of licking every hair into just the right place, and then some ham-handed clod comes along and messes them all up. Enough to make anyone hiss.

When the people touch cats like that, the cats feel that the people have dirtied them and they have to clean those spots again.

Buzz is my hero. I remember staying home from school to watch the launch, landing and splashdown of the Apollo missions. And whenever his name comes up I just have to take the opportunity to repost him punching out a moon landing denier. (Violence warning)

Note he did try and walk away from it, he gave plenty of warning and even tried to walk away a second time. Violence should never be a first response, but there are times when it is called for.

Oh, my cat (a tiny hiss) from Pucky?

Yesterday was Marie’s and my 28th anniversary. It is hard to grasp it has been that long. I am trying to remember what it was like in 1993, and I am sure I was paralyzed with fear about the future. Has it turned out well? Most of our more perfect union has turned out very well. Some of it had hit absolute rock-bottom. And, some of it scared the hell out of me*. But on the whole..several apartments, two houses, two wonderful kids, multiple cat overlords, and three/four careers later…we are happy.

*Fifteen years ago, Marie spent 18 weeks in the hospital/ICU and very nearly died twice. She still suffers health problems from that time. Upon reflection, I have no idea how we made it through that part.

Space Cat! Puck Clawers in the 21st and a half Century!

When I first adopted my Natalie, I put her on my lap and she immediately started bathing herself. The ladies at the adoption center were amazed that she took to me that quickly!

Well Puck, on the other paw, you four cats are always scratching at the bathroom door when the People are in there.

Cats hate it when people do that.

My own little black cat Sebastian just looks at me as I put my hand just where he washed. Then after a while, he demands my lap. Oopsie likes to wash my hand after I’ve taken a “indoor rain” (aka: shower), telling me that’s the proper way to wash one’s self.

Some cats are extraordinarily prissy about this subject. Some of them make a point of re-grooming the spot that you just touched. Others get up and start over somewhere else.

That is Marvynne! My black kitty makes it VERY clear when she does not want to be petted. CHOMP!

I was at the Book Barn in Niantic CT, getting some couch time. Every once in a while I would pet the cat leaning against me, eliciting purrs, but I didn’t want the little black cat in the corner to feel neglected, so I’d give her a pat, too. Finally she swatted me: Quit waking me up!
