Only the highly stupid believe that police will be abolished. To the right wing nut jobs any reform that makes police officers more accountable for actions that are illegal is tantamount to “abolition” of the police. We have to admit to ourselves that historically there has been a “stop snitching” culture among many police organizations and elimination of that mentality that is a large part of the needed reform. Good honest police officers welcome rational reform of the historical culture and changes that will weed out bad players who taint good officers with negatively.

Who said anything about abolishing police? It’s about redirecting some police budgets to things that actually make their jobs easier and more effective without necessarily killing every miscreant they meet. But since Very Garbled has trouble grasping even slightly nuanced ideas I guess this toon is what we should expect.
Let’s all make the assumption that Varvel isn’t really so stupid as to believe that the police will actually be abolished. Ok, most of you haven’t been able to make that leap but for those of you still reading – we now need to consider his motive for this kind of drivel. I don’t believe he’ll be running for Braun’s Senate seat in the next election so scaring the Republicans into voting for him is out. His efforts for the Indy Star before they dumped him weren’t long on intelligence so there’s no change there. He’s no more or less in touch with reality since those days so he hasn’t gone more nuts. So it can only be one thing…

Gary is only illustrating what is going on across the nation on a weekly if not daily basis. Even liberal Democrat Portland mayor Wheeler has apparently had enough of Antifa and BLM violence and destruction, especially considering this last weekend, and has ordered a crackdown. Something he should have done a year ago.
All civilizations need to have some form of policing of the criminally bent 20% of the population. Our problem is that 20% of our police are violently bent bullies exercising their inherent power excessively, even brutally, and occasionally fatally. What’s the solution? Police policing…and that my friends is the conundrum…
