The latest word is that even if you’re unvaccinated, if you’re outside, maintaining 6 feet distance and not spending a lot of time in conversation (or less time while yelling at each other), then masks don’t make much difference. Change any one of those things and you should mask up (and so should he).

If you ARE vaccinated, it’s only polite to mask up anyway, as though you were not. Not that “polite” seems to have much bearing for all too many self centered idjits.

Is there some kind of competition between Varvel and Payne for who can be more stupid?

I wouldn’t give a sh#t if he is alone and maskless. I would be wary if he choose to be maskless near others who are not his family.

He’s outside, so it’s probably safe for all concerned. Of course, his power mower IS polluting the air . . .

Is he in his own yard? Is anyone approaching him? Is Varvel being #justPaynestupid, or what?

Carvel is trying to say that the mean old gub’ment is calling nice white men like this guy bad for doing innocent things like mowing his lawn. Which of course is a lie. As others have pointed out, outside at a distance from others is no problem even if unvaccinated. Outside in close proximity is a problem without a mask (I am fully vaccinated and still carry a mask when I go out in case I encounter anyone). Indoors in a public space should always require a mask, even for the vaccinated. If Varvel wanted to be honest, he would show a right winger inside a store without a mask breathing on masked people who shrink back in disgust.

No one is worried about people mowing their yards without a mask on. People are in grocery stores attacking store workers who ask them to put a mask on in spaces that are enclosed and social distancing is not always possible, that is the real problem.

non sequitur — Who’d come within two meters of someone mowing the lawn? It’s also daylight, if sunny, it’d be even more deadly to viruses.

Just the day before yesterday, there was news that open air disperses the germs so quickly it is extremely unlikely to catch COVID that way as long as you maintain distance from others. As in .0006%. And if this guy was smart enough to have been vaccinated, and he is on his own property away from others, then the odds are minuscule. Take your fearmongering elsewhere and go get vaccinated.

Job well done Mr. Varvel. You have the liberal cupcakes tying their panties in knots with their phony rage. It is obvious that none of them have a lick of common sense. Poor loony liberal cupcakes.

He’s mowing the lawn with nobody even in sight. If he had sandals and socks on, it would be a statement that he was also old enough to have received the vaccine. Did the CDC change the guidance again? That being outside, by yourself, with nobody else within 50 feet, you are still considered a threat to contaminating others? Or perhaps we should condemn him for stirring pollen that has fallen into the grass? Thereby creating respitarory difficulties. Or maybe it’s because he has a yard to mow instead planting an organically managed vegetable and herb garden?Granted, at least hearing protection would be a smarter move.

I don’t think that not wearing a mask while cutting the grass is a problem, unless you’re affected by pollens raised by the mower. For Covid protection, masks are needed in enclosed areas or whenever we are unable to maintain a six foot distance between persons. When I use the lawn tractor I will use a mask, but not for Covid protection, but to protect me from dust and pollens. And I’ll wear ear protection since I need a new muffler for the tractor.

Six feet. The recommended distance for social distancing. I see people driving down the street with their windows rolled up wearing a mask or mowing their lawn.

I have not been wearing a mask outside since this started. Oh well. I’m outside. And if you don’t like it, then stay away from me and we’ll both be happy.

People crossing the road I live on so they don’t come close to you…..outside…….on a walk. Seen people running in the woods with a mask on. In the freaking woods! Afraid they’re gonna pass it to the beaver, or duck, or heron apparently.

I’m going mountain biking with my kids today – won’t be wearing a mask either.

I met my new neighbor last week. I actually shook his hand and talked to him without a mask on. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! And we were both fine with it.

Wearing mask outside makes no sense – unless you are sick or immune compromised (cancer/chemo.) The air is constantly changing, you’re constantly in motion, there is no confinement. Inside, fine. But outside just loony and lacking in sense/data.

Saw a couple last week on my way to work. Driving in a convertible, top down, sunny, gorgeous day…….wearing masks.

About as bright as the lady I saw grocery shopping the other day. She coughed, but pulled her mask down to cough into her hand, then brought the mask back up.

People are done. Absolutely done with this. Nurses I work with don’t care if the masks are up or down. They’re just toasted over these restrictions. Watching Texas, Florida, and Mississippi open up without issue or spike is good news. Yet NY and MA for example with martial law are still having issues.

Gary exemplifies the cognitive dissonance of the Boomers right now: on the one hand, he wants to automatically reject anything Biden has a hand in, and his gang of happy morons rejects anything to do with science or objective reality; but on the other hand, dying really sucks and they call it the “Boomer Remover” for a reason. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch…

Gotta admit, I don’t wear a mask while mowing the lawn too… although it is rare for me to end up close to anybody else while I’m doing it. If somebody comes along we stay apart more than the CDC guidelines suggest.

Here’s MY take on this “problem”:

I had Carlos and his crew grub up my lawn and plant Vinca Minor (“Periwinkle”*).

    - It’s beautiful with green leaves and pale purple flowers.

    - It blooms from early spring to, and through autumn.

    - I can walk on it, or even drive on it (but I don’t).

    - And I never have to mow it!!!

It’s also called “Creeping Myrtle”, but that makes me think of McConnell . . . so it’s “Periwinkle”

    (sigh)
