It’s really bad to do this. It’s really even worse NOT to do this. The only thing I think is worth doing that they probably aren’t considering is giving refugee status (after careful vetting) to any who ask for it.
If Jeezus Dubya Bush hadn’t cock-blocked military commanders at Tora Bora, this could’ve been a real victory. But, leave it to Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for some cheap political points by being able to use Bin Laden as a bogeyman until Obama had him killed. Never forget this.
It is the women of Afghanistan and the girls currently in school there I worry for the most. To give them a glimpse of what the world can be for them, to potentially put them back in the hands of backwards thinking men is just heartbreaking.
We have no choice but to withdraw and should have done so after OBL was removed with extreme prejudice. The saddest part is what will happen to those who assisted our efforts during the occupation.
We did the same to the indigenous people and other individuals who allied with us in Vietnam I occasionally think about how the Fat Orange Clown abandoned the Kurds.
It would not be a bad immigration policy (meaning extract them with the troops) for this country to include these types of people who fought and worked with us, and to whom we made promises never to be kept.
I’m glad we are leaving that god for saken country. Enough is enough! We have America to fix. This country is crumbling before our eyes everyday! Since the A-hole rump released the evil, white supremests, it will take years to rid of them, if at all. The GOP and the Qanons are demented and ruining this country because of their personal agendas and greed. There’s not a one who has a backbone or a conscience or a soul! Liz Cheney is the only one!
Don’t be so quick to knock Afghanistan as a black hole. Lots and lots of folk made pots of money from that.. um, fiasco. Sure, a few folk died.. but hey, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Besides, most of the soldiers that died were insignificantes from lower class neighborhoods and the Afghans never did count as real people. /S
Afghanistan, known as the “slayer of armies,” has been at war with either a foreign power or itself more or less continuously for 192 years. But given our sterling achievements in Korea and Vietnam, the US just knew we could fix this. /s
No amount of military action will stabilize the government in Afghanistan. After 20 years the country had its chance and now they will have to sink or swim.

Now maybe the U.S. can take those monies not being spent on warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan to provide adequate medical attention to vets.

Finally! Someone with the guts to get us out of this mess. We can’t be grandparents to the Middle East forever.

Who is going to profit from the poppy fields after the USA leaves?
The USA is in a quagmire of opiate addiction too, any connection?
