This is probably the only time during the strip’s 10 year run that Calvin told on Susie

We never hear of Susie having any friends at school apart from the mentioning of Jessica in this story arc. Susie speaks to a girl called Candice in a later story arc but they don’t seem to be friends. Calvin and Susie usually seem to be the nearest each other has to a friend at school but Susie is usually more studious than Calvin. This early story arc is from before the Studious Susie image was created. As I said earlier, Miss Wormwood seems to continue to judge Susie by her early days.

It is good to remember that the person sitting behind you with sharpened pencils, is indeed behind you.

Yet, it is evidence that Susie is passing notes.

We send little kids to school during the most active and energetic phase of their lives and expect them to sit still behind a desk, facing forward and paying attention, for 6 straight hours a day. And then we’re surprised and disappointed when they get bored, let their minds drift, and find other things to do. How did it come to this?

I thought Susie was smart and I would have thought maybe she would have had a note signed by Calvin done in a fairly illegible handwriting (Calvin’s style). Busted here.

Gee,,, a female who manipulates people. Whodathunkit.

Apparently we can’t go far enough back in time to find a place where Susie isn’t way smarter than Calvin…

I sure do hope Susie knows a good dentist.

Love Calvin’s shifty expression in the second panel, and then in the third panel he looks like Linus Van Pelt yelling!

I think this may have involved a bet between the two girls and Suzy just won.

Nice that Calvin cares about Susie’s dental care.
