No one really wants to abolish the police. They do want to abolish the persistent racist aspect that has dwelled in police departments far too long.

Whoever coined “Defund the Police” should be slapped. That term has been twisted and misrepresented by conservatives since it first evolved. “Defined the Police” doesn’t mean that and by twisting it, you take away any conversation about the good things that can be done by reallocating some of that money to actual policing and community service.

Where’s a flag draped coffin for Daunte Wright… shot to death at 20 – for a traffic violation: the cops approached his vehicle with their guns already drawn! For every decent cop there are a ton of bad apples – including those who are not bad themselves but cover for the bad ones every time, either helping to plant false evidence or lying in court. Please notice that the other cops standing around while Floyd died from asphyxiation never told their colleague to desist; when Floyd was lying there completely lifeless not a single one even tried CPR to bring him back. And they expect everyone to feel worse about this cop than about all the victims of police incompetence or outright prejudice? Where’s the sense of balance, people? I’ll support the police when the politicians finally get the balls to have them properly controlled, instead of allowing them carte blanche to get away with murder.

“abolish the police”? No, it was “defund the police”, which meant to take off the burdens that the police shouldn’t have, such a social worker. The police are in law enforcement, which is more than enough.

No one wants to abolish the police, just hold them accountable to a code of conduct that does not abuse certain groups of citizens, and an ethics code that deters corruption.

Talib has actually called for the elimination of police, just a couple of days ago.

“It wasn’t an accident,” she wrote. “Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.”

There is obviously a need for law enforcement, and Tlaib I think understands that. But we also have some very deeply broken police departments in this country. Efforts to reform have had decidedly mixed results. Minneapolis in particular has passed many, many reforms through the years, but none have had any real impact because the police department, although funded by the city, does not really answer to it. Case in point: they banned neck-holds years ago. Yet George Floyd died with a Minneapolis police officer’s knee on his neck. The city banned warrior training, so the union started providing it instead. Over and over, the reforms do nothing because the police just politely nod and then make their own decisions.

Well, most of the time. Brooklyn Center’s PD is a little different. Brooklyn Center is a charter city, and that gives the city council more power. The mayor had the power to fire the police chief and the officer who shot an unarmed man, although both had the sense to resign before the paperwork could be completed. That’s more how it should be. The police should be answerable to someone, and not just the criminal justice system.

Sure, one radical on the left makes an overly dramatic and poorly worded statement and that proves that all Democrats are illogical anarchists…

But if any radical on the right makes an overly dramatic and poorly worded statement it’s time for insurrection…

I’m tired of police killing Black men (and women) over and over and over. And I’m a white old woman. I cannot fathom how desperate the Black community has been all these decades thru today. I am tired of systemic racism against all non-whites (and all women). Patriarchy must be broken into teeny tiny pieces and the teeny tiny pieces burned to ashes and the ashes drenched in water.

Most want to relegate police to where they need their guns only. Otherwise they tend to murder black and brown Americans.
