never owned a dog myself… so what makes an Afghan breed stupid?

Another reason to withdraw from Afghanistan.

I Googled on “stupidest dog breeds” and got a list with afghans on top. But #2 was the basenji. I believe that because I once knew one who accidentally hanged himself with his collar. Stupid dog.

Although, my rottweiler was not able to memorize on what floor was our appartment. When we moved to the country, we decided to put his kennel to another place and he kept sleeping on the old spot. Huh

How about this response: “So what’s your excuse, Poncho?”

Poncho you were sprayed by a skunk ! Let’s rethink who is stupid .

Pretty sure this is a dead horse that Paul Gilligan has previously beaten, and is now at it again.

I did not know that about Afghan hounds. It is a good looking breed. My sympathies with any who own one of them.

I knew someone who was very into Afghan hounds and they definitely look graceful (personally I’m not into that what-if-Cousin-It-had-a-dog aesthetic), but they’re certainly no border collies. Admittedly the ones I had met were also puppies, but if brains correlated to hair this breed would be bald.

I’ve seen videos of people dancing with those dogs, so that disproves this theory. Long time ago Ed Sullivan had dog tricks on his show, and Afghans had the most showy and complicated routines.

It all depends on who is doing the judging. From our experience of having had different breeds of dogs from purebred to mutts, I must say that the mixed breeds were the healthiest and the smartest. The smartest meaning that they picked up training faster than any purebred dogs. All dogs are trainable, it just takes more time with others. Our friends who have dogs have said the same.

So to get back to Afghan dog breed. I don’t believe that they are “that” dumb. It’s a matter of time it takes to train one. People who are doing the judging are just too impatient to train them.

If the Afghan is truly the stupidest of dog breeds, blame the breeders. And blame them for all the other breeds that have been ruined to cater for buyers wanting smaller, perkier, fiercer, etc. etc. And blame the dog show judges who have encouraged the departures from the norm for the breed until they’ve made the departures the norm. I could go on and on. Just look at pictures of the bulldog as it was originally and compare it with the modern one.

I was told by a trainer that’s why they sit and look regal. Can’t think of anything to do.

I’d counter with “…except for chihuahuas” but that would go against my “chihuahuas are rats with good publicists” theory.

Just say “Nuh UH!”

No wonder Poncho hates poodles.

Does anyone know why today’s strip is a re-run?

Wasn’t this the dog they used to pay taxes with?
