Right, Mike. Because business is more important than voting. You guys really do hate it when “those people” vote. I guess that’s because you really are seeking to disenfranchise the black business owners, not to support them in any meaningful way.
The republican “party” is severely broken. It cannot win free and fair elections, so it attempts to subvert the process.
Maybe the part of the law they objected to was “if we don’t like the way the election turned out, we can now legally change it to match our preference”. Which component of the law do you think MLB was more sensitive to, Mr. Lester, honestly?
Another question for the artist: would you keep watching baseball if MLB was allowed to change the winner of each game after the final out was recorded?
Let’s be fair – it’s not just water, it’s anything within 150 ft. of the voting booth. But, as I understand it, water is available from stands along the line, so not sure if this really holds much water.
Who knew the slaves would get affected when action is taken against the plantation owner, Mike. I’m sure many of those businesses are reconsidering their association with Georgia at this time instead of looking the other way.
They’re the ones giving away the water, Mike. They’re the ones lobbying MLB and others to boycott Georgia. They’re the ones who have the most to lose if the WHITE OWNED STATE GOVERNMENT gets its way.
yea…that’s the reason…water…yea right…not the fact you believe in voter suppression so you can keep the ‘good old white boys’ in power…. you and most of the Georgia government should be ashamed of yourself…and hopefully no matter how hard you make it to vote the PEOPLE will throw you out.
The Georgia Voting law reminds me of the early regulations again the Jews in Germany. First, they couldn’t ride the busses. Then they were to be moved to the ghettos. Gradually, there was a tightening of the screws. So now, it is more difficult for people in general – not just blacks – to vote. More and more forms of ID. Shorter hours, longer lines, no food or water allowed. Fewer and fewer mail-in ballots. Give them time; Georgia will come up with something else next election.
Yesterday I listened to a Texas senator in an interview on NPR, insisting that the voter repression law they just passed is perfectly fair to everyone. He made a point of saying that they want every “qualified” voter to vote – specifying not every registered voter. And who decides if someone is a qualified voter? Why the new legal arrangement where the legislature can replace voting officials in any district they please, who can then change the outcome of elections if they don’t like them. So Republican-selected voting officials decide who is qualified to vote. Sure, this decision-making could be applied to everyone, but of course it will be applied to districts with high numbers of people of color or “un-American” names, or any style of Democrat, disqualifying them and removing them from the voting rolls, or perhaps just tossing their votes. You can bet they won’t be notified they’ve been disqualified, if at all, until the day before any given election. More than half the states are passing similar laws – pretty much all the ones with Republican legislatures. It makes me physically ill.
Lester’s misleading political cartoon does not show his concern for the implied prosperity that will bypass black-owned businesses in Atlanta. Lester’s spurious claim is nothing other than crocodile tears.
Lester does not give a damn about the well-being of black-owned businesses and his implied claim otherwise is as much a lie as are the claims by Brian Kemp and the GOP Leadershit that their Voter Suppression laws are “really good.”
Major-League Baseball realized that NOT withdrawing the so-called All-Star game from Atlanta would amount to passive endorsement of Brian Kemp’s and the GOP Leadershit’s racist, nativist, and jingoist Voter Suppression laws. Firms like Delta and Coca-Cola that are land-locked in Atlanta have vigorously criticized the Voter Suppression laws. America’s film producers, who often take advantage of Georgia’s weather and landscape, will soon move filming locations to other states.
Such financial blows are not wrist slaps nor have they all been announced. Their cumulative personal financial effects will be born by the average Georgian, not by the likes of Brian Kemp or the GOP Leadershit members.
Kemp’s and the GOP Leadershit’s concerted defense of their racism, their nativism, and their jingoism is best described as “hush-puppy” politics. Hush puppies are a Southern creation: a salty, fried, empty-calorie, corn-meal concoction used to “hush the puppies” which are underfoot.
Whatever Kemp and the GOP Leadershit say about their “really good” Voter Suppression laws will be lies in form and lies in content. These are despicable people. No one can trust ANYTHING they say or do. To support them is to become a quisling bent on smothering democracy.
Let’s see if I understand Mr. Lester’s position. The Repubs didn’t like the voter turnout and outcome of the last election so they are passing a series of laws that will not only make it harder to vote but will also open up an avenue for the party that controls the state government to be able to overturn the results of future elections if they don’t like the results. MLB responds by pulling the All Star game from the state as a protest but according to Mr. Lester that’s bad because doing that will hurt black owned businesses, but making it harder to vote and easier to overturn election results the ruling party doesn’t like is good not just for black owned businesses but for the entire state and democracy. I’m womdering if Mr. Lester is under the influence.
So many people like to point out the cant give away water because it is so outrageous. But the crux if the bill is to close polling places in urban areas, creating longer lines and therfore increasing the number of people that give up.
Also it makes it illegal for a polling place to stay open until everyone in line has been served without a judges order. And the Republican legislators will get to choose the judge

Will Biden compare his home state’s voting laws that are much restrictive than either GA or IA? His lies will catch up with him.

I did a search and found zero articles where a black owned Atlanta business disagreed with MLB’s decision.

It is touching how all of a sudden, Lester cares about black owned businesses in Atlanta.
Or anywhere.

So they moved the game from a city that is 51% Black to one that is 9% Black and to a state that already has voter ID laws in place.
