Have a friend tie your hands behind your back and lie down on your belly. Then have him put slight pressure between your shoulder blades. Your chances of getting up are slim and none.
Three comments above. If she would have only made my sandwich correct, I wouldn’t have had to punch her in the jaw. If she wasn’t dressed so sexy, I wouldn’t have had to rape her. The cartoon flew right over the top of TPG’s head.
The sad thing is that what happened to George Floyd is a lot more common than most would care to believe or admit. If this event occurred 20 or 30 years ago it would be the cops word against a few of the witnesses who might be brave enough to stand up against the brutality of the police force and little if anything would have been done. While a murder is not the usual result of such brutality, cops use excessive force everyday since they can usually simply get away with it. The police are trying to say Chauvin is a bad apple….. He was but there are certainly many more in every police department. If the cops thought they had a reasonable chance of defending their own, they likely would as they did in the Rodney King trial (which back in the ’90s it was just blind luck that someone got that beating on camcorder). Look, I am not saying every cop is a Nazi thug but institutionally the police departments are set up to allow and even condone this behavior. Those who blow the whistle within the departments are labeled snitches and ostracized. I believe what the Minneapolis Police Dept along with the blessing of any unions (which I usually support but those associated with police seem to simply be a cog to help cover up the illegal police actions) that have a say are probably simply doing damage control in this instance.
Given the climate in our country and in Washington I would not hold my breath to see any true effort to reform the police or institute new policies. Any attempt to defund the police will be shot down by right wing law and order hawks from both major parties. I am glad Chauvin is going to go away (and it will be interesting to see his sentence) but I doubt if this will be an event that will open the door for any real change until we change the base of power in Washington as well as state legislative houses (huge problem) and governor’s mansions and then introduce change.
Rall gets it insofar as Chauvin’s concerned, but fails to see that, as presented, he tars all law enforcement with the same brush.
There is no sharp divide between civilian society and law enforcement and Rall fails to recognize, much less acknowledge, the inherent human ambiguity.
What is true is that psychopaths are drawn to positions of power and that truly professional law-enforcement officials EVENTUALLY identify and remove those abusers of authority from the force.
Rall’s is a colorless, black-and-white world populated only by oversimplified members of stereotypical groups and his simplism is “the tendency to concentrate on a single aspect to the exclusion of all complicating factors.” Rall’s simplism does not educate, it misleads.
There are potentially bad apples in every barrel.. What is sad is that there seems no way to remove them.. solidarity seems to be more important than justice.
@Terry Preta Gardens: thanks for proving Ted Rall’s point. Just to make it clear: A man causing no risk to anyone, AFTER being subdued AND handcuffed, was deliberately and with malice aforethought murdered by a police officer, who pushed away attempts to help from professionals with medical training who could see how badly off Floyd was.
Chauvin was not following police policy, he used a technique that is (1) not approved by his department, (2) not appropriate in this situation according to expert testimony by his own police department, (3) rejected by professionals in his department, (4) in violation of their training, and (5) known to be potentially fatal, and he had a history of other such abuses for which he has not suffered any real penalty.
Three hundred-seventeen days since the incident portrayed before Theodore addressed it. At this rate Theodore will finally get around to addressing the January 6, 2021 insurrection on November 19, 2021. If you want to be current Ted, perhaps a running commentary regarding the ongoing trial would be appropriate.
His fault to be born with a dark skin color, and his fault for the police inflicting the death penalty on him in the street for crimes that do not carry death sentences in court…

Somewhat to my surprise, I agree with this one. Assuming that he’s just reporting.

Does Rall normally add fluff for shitz and giggles? I don’t recall the Floyd incident involving anyone swingin’ the old hickory stick.
