In Germany unsolicited sales calls are illegal. On the rare occasion (maybe once a year) when I do get an unsolicited call here in Germany it is usually from the UK. I explain to them that their call is illegal in Germany and that I have recorded their name and number for the relevant authorities. After that I never hear from the same company again.

I wish to hell you’d give up already. I block phone numbers and e-mails and they still find ways to reach me.

Oh thank God you called. It’s a ‘04 with 276,000 miles. I barely made it home last night. I think it’s going to need another transmission. You’d think after 3 replacements they’d get it right. Hello? Hello? Huh, must have hung up.

I learned to not give my actual phone number when buying a new vehicle. The car dealers probably get paid to sell your number to those that call about your warranty.

My 16-yo van might need new fuel injectors at $800 each. Maybe I should sign up?

The latest is a call about a questionable charge on your credit card via your Amazon account in Dayton, OH. (Funny, I thought Amazon was located in Seattle, WA.).

They cover everything but the daily wear and tear. More often than not a properly and timely maintained vehicle is NOT going to blow an engine or transmission. Give me a discount on oil changes, filters, brakes and muffler along with majours. THEN we talk. Maybe. I am in the midst of refusing an extended warranty on one of my trucks, the one I use daily. It works hard, but is designed to do so and it is maintained religiously. Take your extended and find some other fool.

yeah. My truck is 20 years old. It would have had to have been one HELL of an extended warranty…

I never receive these calls. Pretty much the only ones I get are about Medicare supplemental insurance and scammers who speak accented English. Never extended an car warranty.

Do they only call people who buy new cars?

I just got two Skype calls this week about my car’s extended warranty from the car dealer where I’d purchased my last car in Florida – and sold back in 2012!

I haven’t lived in the U.S. since then, and haven’t owned a car, either.

It could have been an offer on his house. When they call I ask for 675,000 firm. (More than 2x the value) If they ever agree I will sell! There is usually a pause and then they ask what improvements we have made lately. I always say, well my husband threw down some pavers in the front and back. (He actually worked really hard on both front and back.) They generally say goodbye then.

I imagine I get several of these calls a day, along with the IRS scams, the Amazon scams, the I’ll Buy Your House scams, the home insurance scams, the medicare supplement scams, …

I say “imagine” because I have my phone set to silence calls from numbers NOT in my contact list. I can’t believe the rest of you don’t do something like that, too.
