Never bought a house Gary? Never had a debt to pay off over the years? Who will benefit from you being in debt, in the end? Why, it’s the future, in the form of your children inheriting the wealth after your death. Did the children (the ‘future’), benefit from the debt of home ownership? Yep, ‘the future’ lived in and used the infrastructure, while it was being paid for. Pretty simple if you think it over.
Varvels’s hero sent the deficit soaring every year of his administration, even though the economy was booming, and he was cheered on from the right. Now, all of a sudden, they are noticing the deficit.
It wouldn’t take nearly that much if the previous (lack of) administration had done what they were supposed have done and obeyed their oaths of office to actually work for the betterment of the Country. Varvel just thinks (and I use that term VERY loosely) that tax money belongs in the coffers of republican donors.
Yes, Gary he is attempting to Invest in the future, not bankrupt it by giving tax breaks to those he do not need it.The GOP is against jobs in America, if people get jobs they will have no need to shoot up others with there AR-15’s
Where was your concern when the tRumplicans gave nearly two trillion to the fat cats in tax breaks. The infrastructure bill will create direct jobs and improve our crumbling transportation system. I only hope that we can go back to the days when a public works project can be started and completed within the lifespan of those working on it.
Yet another dimbulb conservative cartoonist who doesn’t mind that the US is ranked #11 in Infrastructure among developed countries. Ask Texans about the importance of infrastructure, Gary. Or think about it when Trump’s pal, Putin, decides to knock out our entire electrical grid. Or when your car is sinking in the river because the ancient bridge failed. What. A. Dolt.
Just like only 9% of the “COVID relief bill” was for COVID relief, only 5.7% of the “Infrastructure bill” is for infrastructure! All that extra debt for radical leftist wishlist crap is STUPID!
It’s well to remember the Erie Canal (not called that, then) which was built by the State of New York for $10 million. It was critically responsible for most of the burgeoning prosperity of New York State and City, put the port of NY on the map, promoted prosperity throughout the Great Lakes region. Took a number of years for construction to start, thanks to clamorous nay-saying and bitching about the astronomical cost. Note that $10 million in 1811 is pretty close to a trillion dollars in today’s money.
There was bitter opposition to the National Road, too (precursor of US 40), which was crucial in opening up the continental interior. Modern day Publicans and the Varvels are reading from the very same script as the scolds and scoffers of 1811.

Varvel has it as wrong as his cartoon depicts it.
McConnell was the one who blocked all house bills for 4 years.

Imagine having the simplistic view of governing — and the world — that Varvel and other Trump Disciples have.

I wonder if we gave him water from lead pipes and his family had to travel over a decrepit bridge every day…

Reinstate the taxes on the rich that trump took away, and this can be paid for in a couple years.

Thanks to the magic of “shadow banning,” no one but me can see this comment.
Maybe that explains the “echo chamber” here.

All of the comments are spot on, and Gary has produced another monumentally stupid cartoon.

The only thing crumbling faster than our infrastructure is Biden’s mental state.

Invest in our future? What a ridiculous idea.
