I believe Jello lack significant nutrition except for the sugar. If you know how it is made you may have second thoughts about eating it. Whipping cream, on the other hand, is………….

That’s the way my son used to treat his slices of pumpkin pie. The joke was that he had a little pie with his whipped cream.

At the church I used to go to, the pastor was obsessed with whipped cream. At a Thanksgiving event held by the church, I saw him take a piece of pumpkin pie, then spray on so much whipped cream that you couldn’t even see the pie any more. It just looked like a plate of whipped cream.

Dad called jello nervous pudding. And he warned me to never eat hospital jello, which he said was always green. They called it lime, but he said he couldn’t be sure. In the 1940’s whipped cream usually was made by hand because the canned stuff was not around much. I have never liked commercial stuff since that time.

You can’t beat the real stuff. The fake stuff lays in the belly like a bowling ball. I’d rather take the minute of beating real cream tinged with real maple syrup. Yum.

When I was a kid (and yes, even I was a kid once upon a time), my Mother used to combine “Fruit Cocktail” (a fanciful name if there ever was one) with Jello. In those days, canned whipped cream wasn’t readily available, and Mother used “Dream Whip,” a whipped topping mix in a box, to which you added milk and vanilla extract and whipped yourself. In any case, the whipped topping sort of hid what was beneath, but you knew what was there. The sight of that limp “fruit” suspended in an impossibly colored congealed wobbly goo always made me somewhat uneasy, rather like the bodies frozen in ice I saw much later in the movie “Logan’s Run” (MGM – 1976). Admittedly, I was a strange child.

I remember one time drinking iced tea, adding so much sugar to the tea that my Mommy asked me if I’d like some tea with my sugar. I replied, yes, please, it makes it so much easier to drink the sugar! =^________^=

That is exactly how the correct amount is determined. It’s a universal measurement system, and applies to sour cream on a baked potato, whipped cream on a slice of pumpkin pie, etc. If you can still see the food item under the topping, you need more topping.
