Don’t worry Snoopy. You had one of the last competent Governors, (Ronald Reagan), in California’s history to run things. And California still had an efficient Law Enforcement/ Search and Rescue system in place. California was such a nice state to live in 47 years ago. Not perfect by a long shot. But still better run and nicer to live in then, than now.
I always try to find a stream or river if I get lost in the woods, or better yet a road. I then just follow the river downstream. Sooner or later I will find civilization. I’ve never been in a true wilderness area, but have gotten lost in unfamiliar territory a time or two.
Wow. I must be worth a lot more than yesterday. I just selected the “Like” heart and the score went from 73 to 89. So, my vote is worth a whole lot more than 1, more like 16. I guess I hit the jackpot. Maybe I should go out and buy a lottery ticket.
learn to STATIONARY panic when you get lost, Snoopy – do everything a NORMAL panic mode would cause you to do, HOWEVER, ‘stay in place’. So scream, sweat, have an anxiety attack, etc. BUT if you do it all ‘in place’ then you won’t run into a tree, or plunge over a cliff, or trip over a log, or have to try to find your gear. This type of panic usually only works when you discover you are lost. It is not a panic recommended for Carnivorous animal attacks, by most ‘experts’. Of course, as we know from the last couple years of being advised by experts – where that leads!!! More panic attacks.
Rule #1 when hiking, carry a deck of cards… if lost, sit down and start to play a game of solitaire… within minutes, you will hear someone say, “play the red seven on the black eight.”
From personal experience, I can recommend "The Modified Stationary Panic”, from Patrick McManus’s book: A Fine And Pleasant Misery. It has a short story (with that name) of how the author deals with being lost. BTW, I’m recommending READING the story, not actually DOING what he suggests. If you find your way back to civilization, read his other stories of his adventures with his friends Retch, Rancid, and his dog, Strange. Truly “fun and pleasant” reading.

Can’t you smell your way home like all those movie dogs?
Oh, that’s right. That’s why people write books and make movies, because real life isn’t like that.

PSST! Snoopy! Are you afraid of large, predatory animals that come out at night? I’m sure you don’t need to worry about those….much.
