Now that I have my shots, I’ve only recently gone back into the office.
I quickly noticed that there is a rift between the in-office staff and the stay-at-home staff.
Some of the resentment is absolutely real in that the in-office staff has to pick up some of the workload that cannot be done at home such as physical inspection of parts. It might only be a one or two item per day thing from the point of view of the stay-at-home person, but it’s times the number of stay at home people from the point of view of in-office people.
Then there is the feeling that the work-at-home people have a perk that the in-office people don’t have and therefore should be paid less because they don’t have the expense of a commute or day care.
I really can’t comment on that one. I have very good evidence that some of my co-workers who work from home are using the time they would normally commute to do work. Also, it’s just me and my wife. I am not sure I could manage home schooling and home working at the same time.
As a data analyst, my work is actually better suited for working from home. The only reason I am going in is to observe other people so I can better understand their automation needs and serve them better.
She is dreading the possibility that the out-gassing she was able to avoid on Zoom etc, will now be the pattern of her days at the office. Some people just like the sound of their own voices, especially when they have a captive audience. After all, a paycheck is like a huge anchor. Not much freedom of movement.
For me, when the meeting goes blah blah blah, I will turn off the video claiming a bad connection, then do something else, for example, read Go Comics.
