But it’s 50 F (10 C) in Springville, Iowa. Is it really that cold?

Layer, layer, layer! A plugger learns to keep the chill off while working or being outside hoping the sun will warm up and the extra shirt or sweater can be taken off. It beats wearing a heavy coat that may get too warm too quickly!

And that’s in addition to the woolies he has on or, if he’s jumped to the modern age, his polies. It’s all about the layers relative to the activity.

You would think that with that layer of blubber he would not be so cold.
