Change the word “Cancel” to “Conservative”… much more appropriate. My guess is Stantis’ paycheck originates with that crowd.

Simple terms: political correctness with another name

So this is about white grievance trying to overturn(cancel) a free and fair election?

Do the Republicans realize that they are canceling the Republican Party?

Define “cancel” and “culture.” The alliteration in the slogan phrase makes it cute so that it passes smoothly and quickly through the public consciousness like mineral oil through the digestive tract. Then —

Define “truths” versus “lies.”

Define “facts” versus “alternative facts.”

Define “win” versus “lose.”

Define “liberty” versus “chaos.”

The Trump Administration had (very much more than previous administrations) cynically blurred the distinctions between those concepts, in some cases reversed them as to being good or bad things.

List “The Seven Heavenly Virtues” (Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Justice, Temperance, Prudence) versus “The Seven Deadly Sins,” (Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth) to judge whether or not modern commercial and political “cultures” have effectively, if not purposely, reversed their social acceptances.

Can a moral, stable society hold together long with these insidious reversals?

Define “well-guided citizenry” versus “flock of sheep.” Define “shepherds” versus “rustlers.” Which one of each pair pertain to our present society and its leaders?

Hmmm, cancel culture. Well, it does fit that the trumpublicons would use such a term. After all, what “cancel culture” really says is that we should cancel culture, like get rid of movies, television, books, music, art, dance and all such like. Certainly these are all things trumpublicons seem to have little interest in except for any propaganda value it might present.

Cancelling the votes of the majority to impose your bigoted authoritarian minority is olay though?

“Cancel Culture” used to go by another name. It was called “Shaming”, often used to shame people for being horrible people or doing horrible things. It was so effective that even the courts used it in sentencing for criminal behavior. Even Nixon quit his job rather than face the shame of being impeached. But, alas, there is no shame deep enough for the Trumpuglicons to become better people and work for the betterment of their people and country. Even now they are passing Jim Crow laws to keep people of color from the polls. Do they really think Americans will long stand for this? And, do they really think starting another civil war will end well for them? We need more people like Stacey Abrams to get out the vote no matter the obstacles and run these shameless politicians out on a rail. Tarred and feathered would work too.

Just saw parents teaching their children to cancel masks by burning them. Makes me nauseous just watching the kids parrot the crap their parents are yelling. Cancel science. Cancel medicine. Cancel specialists. Stupid is trying to rule. I wish they’d run away and get lost… for good.

It is difficult to defend the right of free speech to those who abuse it by yelling “Fire!” when there is none or to those who use insulting stereotypes to depict people of other races or create conspiracy theories to counter objective truths and divide the nation.

Our bill of rights was not intended to be a suicide pact. Why the “Republicans” have totally abandoned their inclusive progressive heritage is bewildering especially with the inevitable change in population demographics that is occurring.

Just because something has been part of a culture does not make it sacrosanct. Even you, Scott, would agree with that if the venue were switched to an Arabic culture.

I read a lot of novels from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The novels can be great, but many of them, most of them, display disturbing attitudes about race. One of the most interesting examples is Huck Finn. When I was young, oh so many years ago, it was widely considered in liberal circles as progressive on race for its time. But in more recent times, many black teachers and students have drawn attention to pretty disturbing things about it, and some people now refuse to teach it in college courses. There’s quite a controversy about it, and at least one scholarly book debating the issue. (Probably more, but it’s not my field, so I don’t keep up.) My own feeling is that it should be taught, first because it really is a great book (whatever that means), but also because it tells us something important about the past, not something pleasant, but important, which is that even progressive voices are likely to have attitudes and presuppositions which are disturbing in later times. You can explain all that to a college class. But Dr. Seuss is for kids, and it’s not so easy to explain the disturbing images in (a few of) the Dr. Seuss books to a six-year old. If I were teaching six-year old children now, I would pass over those books and encourage them to read the ones that don’t have those disturbing images. At a certain point, it’s appropriate to start the discussion of stereotyping and race, and then it’s appropriate to go back and read those books. I loved On Beyond Zebra, by the way.
