The Catholics do preach that life is sacred. So freakin’ sacred that they think it’s a sin to use the propagated cells of a long  deceased fetus. Though I heard that somebody in the hierarchy (Pope himself??) said that if J&J was all that was available, it was okay to take it, but it would be better to use a different one if available.

From this atheist’s viewpoint: Take the first (certified) one you can get, without even bothering to ask.

the difference between faith and science is you can run experiments and test your thoughts with science. I have tested gravity many many times and it seems to hold. I several times had dreams of flying and knew I could fly in my dreams. I had faith I could fly in my dreams. When awake after testing gravity once more I knew that I could not fly.

In watching a jet plan fly I knew it must fall only to see it fly. I now have faith in jet planes flying and I also know why because of science.

Get the shot when you can. Save yourself and your loved ones and even the other people you don’t know by getting vaccinated. Then we can get rid of Covid-19 and go about life.

There was a time when science was respected. Was Polio defeated by so many accepting the vaccines because not doing it left the chance of clearly visible debilitating injuries while Covid survivors only have damaged hearts and lungs that are not visible?

Questioner: Do you believe all human life is sacred?

    Pro-Lifer: Absolutely. 100%.

Questioner: Do you support capital punishment?

    Pro-Lifer: Absolutely. 100%.

God gave us brains. We used them to develop the vaccine. It would be sinful to reject God’s gifts.

It is axiomatic that “Pro-Life” isn’t. It’s merely “Anti-Abortion.” But the former fits better on a tee shirt.

Wow, quite the condescension coming from a poster above. Wrong dude! We aren’t ignorant, we understand fully that some American bishops are advising against the J & J vaccine if others are available – but given how difficult it can be to get ANY vaccine, we’re smart enough to take the first one available, period. Turning down a vaccine that used cells propagated since the 1980’s? The sooner everyone who wants a vaccine gets one, the more lives will be saved NOW.

News bulletin: HEK293 cells are a cell line modified (transformed) from human embryonic kidney and used in numerous medical research projects. Chances are you have already used medical procedures that were developed with them. The lab with which I am associated has been using them for about 25 years. We study a particular set of genetic diseases in humans, and they have been essential in this work, and, yes, we have made significant progress on the problems that have been clinically applied.

Here’s a layman’s synopsis of what they are.

The POPE says it is okay. So anyone who cares can ignore the right-wing nut-job bishops. Francis hasn’t cleaned them all out yet – though this may give him more reasons…

The Southern Catholic Church – behind the times; out in space(so to speak); denying reality? Why does anyone expect anything else?

Evangelists expect to be protected by divine intervention, and dislike science because it erodes their superstitions… despite their Good Book that advises them to help themselves… and when their poor choices come back to bite them, they explain it as their deity’s will instead of taking any responsibility of their own…

Just think of all the evangelicals and right wing anti abortionists who’s lives were saved by aborted fetal tissue.

I had my second shot yesterday and I feel fine.

Not so much pro-life as anti-anything to do with the human reproductive system or any of its products. They are anti-IVF, anti-fertility drugs, anti-prenatal fetal surgery to correct birth defects, anti-any form of contraception (Vatican Roulette was originally used to determine when a woman was ovulating to encourage baby-making). The only thing concerning the human reproductive system they endorse is anesthetic free circumcision. But they are ok with any other medical care. Because to them sex is dirty and should only be shared with someone you love within the confines of a “Christian marriage” for the express purpose of making babies.

Roman Catholic leaders in St. Louis and New Orleans are advising Catholics that the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, newly approved for use in the U.S., is “morally compromised” because it is produced using a cell line derived from an aborted fetus. The New Orleans Archdiocese says the decision to receive a vaccine is one of individual conscience.

Not all diocese share this opinion.

San Diego Catholic Diocese says Johnson & Johnson vaccine ‘entirely morally legitimate’

Pope Emeritus Benedict and Pope Francis have received the currently available COVID-19 vaccines (first dose).

U.S. bishops splinter on the morality of taking coronavirus vaccines.

Back in the 50s, as I recall, public health measures weren’t so politicized, except perhaps for fluoridation, but that was mostly a lunatic fringe.

Sounds like Mr. Hands is profoundly confused. Let us hope that one day he will embark upon the path of honest comprehension, and let us have compassion upon him and his victims in the meantime.
