Elections were validated. And audited. It was a fair election. Hr 1, however, counteracts state Republicans attempts to tilt elections in their favor. I don’t understand why Republicans are working so hard to deny people the right to vote except to keep themselves in power.
As opposed to the GOP proposal of limiting voting to as few people as possible? Preferably wealthy and white? You’re as bad as FoxNews and Newsmax and Breitbart: distorting the facts to support a tired narrative and a party trying to drag us back to Jim Crow laws. Disgusting.
My “favorite” comment from the alt-right on HR1 was that it would permanently install the Democratic Party in power. Then they say there’s no point in voting any longer and I just shook my head….
The Republicans don’t believe in democratic elections. They believe in power. Why not have a system which would automatically register everyone. I have no problem with voter ID, but it should be something reasonable. Here in Toronto you need two pieces of ID, one that shows who you are and one that shows where you live. I don’t have a driver’s license, so I use my passport and a utility bill. There should be lots of places to vote, so that people don’t have to go far from home and don’t have to wait in line. Here in Toronto I’ve never had to walk more than a few blocks and I’ve never waited more than five minutes. Usually I don’t wait at all. The US is supposed to be a model of democracy for the world, but more and more it is a model of how a democracy fails.
Mr Ramirez seems to have conveniently forgotten to demonize non-partisan drawn district boundaries to eliminate gerrymandering also in HR-1. ¿Qué pasa?
spoken like a true trumplikin mikie…..you guys are doing your best to make sure America isn’t the land of the free and home of all who can vote… you keep workin’ on your ‘white privilege’ mikie….keep makin’ sure only old white guys stay in power…
The last election was already valid and fair. Any doubt on it is irrational, and those irrational believers think that elections were fraudulent only because their guy lost, and they loved him so much that they believed he could not lose. So, no, H.R. 1 will not cast even more doubt on elections.
To the contrary, it will make elections MORE fair and democratic, thereby putting more confidence into our system being democratic, and forcing our elected officials to actually represent us.
Why do Republicans try to restrict people from voting? That question was the best answered by one of the lawyers representing Arizona’s restricting voting Bill. When the lawyer was asked by a supreme court judge why he thought this law was necessary the lawyers’ answer was that without this bill Republicans would never be able to win an election against Democrats.
It was the threat of dirt bag Maga’s attacking our Capitol again that the House felt compelled to cancel their sessions yesterday. Republicans are doing everything they can to slow down the recovery of the USA after the disastrous Trump failing.Republicans then made racist rapist liar covid spreader their leader for the next 4 years. What can you do with these divisive and vicious freaks? They are so mentally ill they have their own ‘alternate reality’, or as normal people call it, a web of lies.
Republicans only want to unify PART of the country – the part that votes for them. All others should be discarded, or at least have voting privileges impaired…
Denver Reader: I assume you get your ‘news’ from CNN? Detroit and other Democrat-run cities STOPPED counting votes on November 3rd; Waited until ‘mail-in’ ballots arrived at 4 am November 4th in private vehicles; Counted the ‘mail-in’ ballots WITHOUT Republican observers; The vote count was certified even when the total was higher than the number of registered voters! When the addresses didn’t need to be valid, nor did the postmarks need to be within the limit specified in in the state election laws, when signatures didn’t need to match, when ‘mail-in’ ballots DIDN’T have creases from being in an envelope… You get ‘audited’ recounts adding up the same BOGUS Biden votes guaranteeing a Biden ‘win’ every time. HR 1 codifies everything Democrats used to CHEAT! Photo IDs AREN’T hard to obtain and should be required for in-person voting; Ohio mail-in absentee ballots [which I use,] require ONE of multiple choices for verification [such as your driver’s license number,] AND have to be REQUESTED by mail. [I usually get multiple absentee ballot request postcards from Republican groups as well as an official application with a return envelope from Ohio.]It ISN’T difficult [in Ohio] to prevent: cheaters from using dead people’s names, or voting multiple times, or FOREIGN citizens using a driver’s license they were ALLOWED to legally obtain, ‘motor-voter registration’, to vote in OUR elections. The U.S. Constitution stipulates: “State legislatures shall set the terms for elections.” Democrat state officials and courts set the terms for elections in 2020. This made cheating on a large scale easier! As a Democrat, you are happy with the Biden ‘win’. There was nothing legal or fair in the 2020 election in Democrat-run cities!
Ramirez is being about as dishonest as possible about HR1. It’s there to allow more people who are eligible to vote to do so, unlike the GQP response which is “If people are allowed to vote, we’ll lose”.
Maybe I’m misinterpreting, but it looks like Ramirez is opposing Lincoln’s 1864 soldier vote. Republicans were very worried, railroaded Nevada statehood in October 1864, telegraphed the entire state constitution to DC, just in case they needed 3 extra electoral votes.
We have been voting by mail in Colorado for so long I can’t remember. Our signature, which is validated, is our voter ID. Republicans just don’t like it when more people vote.
Right wing snowflakes: Throwing hissy fits when you insist that the validation was done and done properly and they still just don’t WANT to believe it. As for the GQP efforts to disenfranchise people: They have seen the same studies everybody can see: The more people who vote, the more poorly Republican candidates do. It is very clear. So yes: they only do it because they want to win.
I am really confused. H.R.1 validates elections…that includes…okay I got lost. Mr. Ramirez, your brilliant and elegant cartooning baffles me. Now I have to find out if Ronald Searle was a bloody anti healthcare nut….or even a Nazi as so many brilliant Brits were. We want the good art in our corner. With all the starchy correctives!
Unfortunately, while the Jets and the Sharks both agree on the proposition, they don’t agree at the same time. In 2016, it was Democrats who claimed the election had been tampered with. In 2020, it was Republicans.
