Word of warning: If you have a teenager, DO NOT take your family to Las Vegas. You’ll have a bored and frustrated teenager on your hands, who will probably get into trouble with casino security trying to play the slots.

Duke completely ignores the showgirls, as expected. Give the kid some credit. He may be wearing the sunglasses, but he is not blind. And he has not seen it before.

Kinda like when Disney “took over” Times Square.

I wonder if Time Warner felt litigious about this or took it as a complement.

As Don Corleone said: “A lawyer with a briefcase can steal more than 10,000 guys with machineguns.” A mobster with a computer can steal more than a million lawyers.

The Donald was so corrupt in New Jersey that he couldn’t get a gaming license in Nevada. Only hotel in Las Vegas that doesn’t even have a slot machine in the lobby.

I read an article about new vs. old Vegas in Spy magazine years ago. Essentially, the point was the mobs may have been killers, but they were human. The corporations aren’t even that.

The only thing worse than the mob is a bank. Bank enforcers are law enforcement.

I used to work for Warner (early 80s, when they owned Atari) and shady stuff was definitely happening. There was an office in New York City where paychecks went, but no one was actually working there. Lots of merchandise ordered from factories in Taiwan but never delivered. Visits from spooky execs with even spookier assistants (and bodyguards).

Closer to the mark than you might think.

Sam Rothstein: “The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior’s college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it’s like checkin’ into an airport. And if you order room service, you’re lucky if you get it by Thursday. Today, it’s all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some twenty-five-year-old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number. After the Teamsters got knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos. And where did the money come from to rebuild the pyramids? Junk bonds.”

You know, I could swear that the original of this strip had Disney in the punch line instead of Time-Warner. Can anybody confirm that?

I’ve only been to Las Vegas (NV) once; on a family trip to California when I was 10 years old. The one thing I remember is stopping for breakfast at a Howard Johnson restaurant and they had a couple of 10¢ slot machines in the foyer. I only got to pull the handle one time before a waitress ran over rather forcefully informed me I was too young.

They wouldn’t even let me keep the 20¢ payoff.

I made my first trip to Vegas in 1975 at 15 with my Dad. We had dinner at the Jolly Trolley on the Strip after eating we hit the Topless Club the best 8hrs of my young life. No one asked me for a ID the entire 10 days I roamed the Strip while my Dad worked building the Maxium Hotel. I loved the old vegas but find the Amusement Park version silly and think they are moving away from roller coasters back to a grown up destination, I haven’t been in a few years it will be interesting post covid to see how Vegas plays it.

I vaguely remember an earlier Vegas story arc in which Duke and Honey encountered “Dr. Sinatra” (“You Little Bimbo!”) (unless those were two separate arcs).

    “Psst! Sir! Because it’s wrong!”

“Who is this broad, Jiminy Cricket?”

I don’t know if that arc ended with Duke having a price put on his head (as mentioned yesterday) or if said price was put there during an untold adventure of Duke, while the strip was focused on other characters instead of him.

    He’s not kidding about Warner.

They think “Ethics Rules” are suggestions for ways to make a new Godfather Movie more “Appealing” to audiences.

If Earl’s mom was a stripper, wouldn’t he know all about “showgirls” by now? Surprised he didn’t end up in the business himself when his mom owed money to her drug dealer or pimp: blonde boys can fetch quite a nice price. Or was he in foster care by then? The difference being he wouldn’t have been getting paid like if he was being a rent boy.
