There are approximately 100,000 English words that most people will at least feel like they have a clue about. Even if 50% of them are biased somehow, that leave 50K names, even before you distort the spelling.
Ah, I knew this would elicit a Stupid Henry Payne cartoon. He just can’t help any chance to make a poorly drawn “car” toon.
As for Jeep, how they name their vehicles is their own business. They’ve pretty much run the gamut of Native American names, why not start with something new? Presidents? Mountains? Athletes? Military Commanders? Maybe even famous military battles. After all, the Jeep was the official military vehicle, invented for the military by Willys, in the 1940’s. Even the name “Jeep” is thought to be the pronounced contraction for “G-P”, standing for General Purpose vehicle.
There was a time when people were ashamed, and enraged, enough to start a revolution culminating in the Great Experiment. You suggest we should not be ashamed of our histories of child labor, slavery, exclusion of women from the process, the imprisonment of innocent Asians – on and on and on. We should be ashamed of any number of things even today, and work for change.
It’s perfect that the badge for this comic in the index is a caricature of Obama. Perfect and timely metaphor for a reactionary’s reactionary: mocking a president who left office four years ago.
I guess I need some help understanding why the name is so bad. It seems to me that Jeep is honoring a Native American tribe by naming a vehicle after them. The Army has named several of its helicopters after Native American tribes. I found this article that explains why the Army chose Native American names, and it was definitely to honor Native Americans. https://www.defense.gov/Explore/Inside-DOD/Blog/Article/2052989/why-army-helicopters-have-native-american-names/ So, is the Army next?
I would leave it up to the Cherokee Nation. Perhaps, instead of a name change, take some of the profits and give scholarships to children of the Cherokee Nation instead?
you know what i don’t get about wokesters is that they want to remove every black person and people of color off of packaging, food, and so on. i mean they get more offended by it than actual people of color.
Drawing a Jeep grill with 6 slots is like drawing Mickey with 5 fingers. I just learned that Jeep is bringing back the Wagoner as an electric suv. Yep, a big, fat, electric suv.

But I’m glad Payne got to draw some big tires.

I think they should change the name to honor all the loony liberals in this country. The Jeep Grand Cupcake.

Poor Payne. Can’t think of a name for a product without being offensive, no matter how hard he tries.
The Jeep Grand Defender. There. Done. Good, strong sounding name. Better copyright it quick.
